If you’re looking for a surf instructor Ash is the best around. He was highly referred to me by a friend, and the reference was spot on. Ash is a veteran surfer with tons of experience and has won highly coveted awards in this space. He not only can teach you how to surf, but knows how to surf himself. This was my first time surfing so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Ash made me feel comfortable and safe from the beginning of the lesson all the way to the end. He explained what we were going to do and walked me through the entire process before we started so I knew what to expect. I cannot recommend him enough. I usually don’t write reviews but this guy is amazing and I think anyone looking to surf should use him and know how great of a coach/instructor he is.
If this is your first time surfing or you’re more experienced and looking for some additional tips, I’m confident Ash would be a great instructor for you. My friend is a much more experienced surfer and he still uses Ash to help him to this day. Ash offered great instruction, not only mechanically, but psychologically to help you relax and feel comfortable on the water. Despite Ash’s initial instruction, I had some initial difficulty paddling out. Ash noticed it right away, corrected it, and it was smooth paddling out to the waves from there. Once near the waves he set me up for a good 10-12 waves and I was able to stand up about 8 times and had a solid 3-4 good surfs. This was a major win for my first time and much more than I expected. Most of the credit is in Ash’s hands as his instruction helped me progress well through the lesson.
While we were on the beach and Ash was giving me some initial tips before we got into the water, several surfers came up to him and said how great he was and how happy they were to see him. So if you don’t take my word for it, take the word of the other surfers that know him. This guy is...
Read moreSurfing lessons with instructor Ash would be the most unforgettable memory.
2 lessons with Ash were such a great experience. Learning basic understanding of a surfboard, how to adjust body weight to stay balanced on board, traffic rules, and manners at the Haleiwa surfing area.
At the first lesson, I was in the group lesson of 3 people for 2 hours—learning basic things mentioned above was fun. However, I found myself wanting to go for a private lesson.
At the second lesson, I had a brief review of basic surfing rules and went to catch waves. In a 1:1 private lesson, Ash and I caught lots of waves, and I flew all the way to shore.
Without Ash's help, I would probably end up not experiencing the true joy of surfing the right way.
Instructor Ash is caring, focused on students, keeping safe of everybody nearby, having a great understanding of how waves move, and having good timing to lead students to fully enjoy the ocean.
I definitely recommend surfing with Ash. You would not regret it.
Hope to see you someday again.
Best regards from South...
Read moreI organized a 3 day camp for myself and a one day beginner lesson for 4 of my ohana. My family had such a great experience with only good things about their lesson and instructors. They all had varying levels of success and were satisfied with their accomplishments. My 3 day, one-on-one camp goals were to take my basic surf skills and learn how to better handle my board, basics of turning, control the endings of my rides and get more practice. My previous surfing sessions were physically draining, where in this camp I learned how to get the most efficient paddle. I learned how to look at the wave before, during, and after and use my gaze to open up my body and to turn. We spent time reflecting on each wave and what we want to improve on. Ash knew how to get me out of my head too. Over the 3 days my waves grew in size and my rides were longer. Ash’s super power is support and praise. Every wave is a success and gets a high five. All in all, amazing instruction and support for group of 49+ year olds. I’ll be looking them up for another...
