This is a premium place of business. I was able to rent two wonderful bikes and explore so much of the Island with no stress.
I was visiting MV during the recent fourth of July week and needed two bikes for myself and daughter. I requested upright cruisers as I wanted something super comfy and upright for the bike paths and moving from town to town. I reserved my bikes over the phone with a credit card and upon arrival, Robert had all of the info ready and we picked up our bikes within five minutes of checking in.
Being an avid cyclist, I usually spot issues with bikes immediately. However, the two Schwinns we were given were obviously extremely well maintained, the chains well lubed, and everything safely adjusted. Even though they were upright cruisers, we were able to briskly tackle the paths and roads in comfort and style. I noted many other rentals at the bike racks, and ours felt premium in comparison.
I especially enjoyed the gearing as there are some hills on the Island and we seem to have found many of them, especially crossing over to Chappy. The bikes also came with a lock which was handy and every town and beach has loads of bike racks. One day, we did 16 miles total of exploring and felt very little fatigue, such was the comfort of the bikes.
I was especially appreciative of Robert's kindness and eagerness to ensure everything was great. He and his staff are super efficient and just plain nice!
My daughter and I brought out own helmets, but I noted All Star has helmets there you can use. They also have electric bikes, which we will definitely try next time.
During busy periods, be sure to book in advance to get the bikes you want. That week the Island was pretty packed. In short, you can't go wrong...

Read moreI rented 3 bikes from the Oak Bluffs shop. The young guy who helped us at the beginning was great — he made sure the bikes fit and that we were ready to go. So the service at pickup was fine.
The problems came with the bikes and the way the shop is run. All 3 bikes had maintenance issues: the chains kept slipping, one bike wouldn’t shift into the highest gear, and on another the crank arm was so loose that I had to tighten it myself to stop the noise. Simple things like a bit of chain oil or basic adjustments would have solved these problems. As a cycling enthusiast, I can tell these are minor fixes, but it’s clear the bikes are not properly maintained.
We tried calling the number on the bike’s sticker 3 times, but nobody ever answered. I don’t understand why we were given instructions at the start to call that number if, when problems come up, no one picks up the phone.
Another frustration was at the counter. In front of the shop it says clearly that they offer a free map, but when I asked for one, I was told they didn’t have any — even though I saw them give a map to the next customer right after. Also, when I said I wanted 3 bikes, I was asked if I had the money — not exactly a respectful question for a paying customer.
Finally, the hours are misleading. Google Maps shows the shop closes at 6:00 pm, but we were told we had to return the bikes by 5:00 pm with no explanation.
Unfortunately, we didn’t enjoy the ride at all with bikes in this condition — we struggled more than we admired the views. Next time, I would try a...
