This is a long overdue review!
I called a different Dogtopia and they were not as friendly or postive. So I got lucky and Called this plce. Since its the same Chain but Family owned! So much better on the phone and in person. As any pet parent, you try to do the best for your furry family member. Called this place had Tony picked up the phone and was so welcoming and answered all my questions along with setting up my first visit. Which is requierd to make sure your furry family member may get accustomed to there new surroundings and the staff. Fast Forward to our first visit.
Driving into the parking lot is no problem, easy location and very new! It is located near Pete's Market and behind the daycare building. Going into the buliding was easy. I was greeted by Tony, Matt and an older gentalman who I forgot his name. (Sorry!) I filled out the paper work and bought along my pet's medical records. (rabies, boarding. make sure up to date). After that the staff took my dog in for him to smell and wonder the area's that he would be in. Tony asked if my dog was crate trained, this is a must since they do change out staff and the dogs do get nap time! I said he was as a puppy but very rarely but you are more then welcome to try it. They do a crate test first to see if your dog willing to go in and stay and not cause issues. After that he is able to play with the others and smell the area that he will be in. Tony, then showed me the grooming, the back area, where they prepare the food for the dogs. Food wise, they do feed your furry family member Blue Buffalo! which was a plus side for me. because my furry member has allergeies. After the walk through my furry member stayed for a couple of hours so I could get some errands done. Fast forward to the pick up. easy and my furry member loved it.
Fast forward a coupld months.
I had to work more and life got a little complicated. My furry memeber was staying for a week due to work scheduling. Dropped him off fine and everything but they did notice a couple days that my furry memeber was not eating and not playing with the others dogs. So I got a phone call from Matt and said hes a little worried he wasn't eating. They woud try hand feeding. That didn't go so well and he was getting colder. So they kept him upfront with the staff. We then picked him up and headed our way to the VETERINARY SPECIALTY CENTER in BUFFALO GROVE. I Wont go into detail as to what happend there but I really do appericate what DOGTOPIA has done. They do go above and beyond to make sure you and your pet are very well taken care of. Will be visting you guys soon and I hope you have a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe've been with Dogtopia Oakbrook since 2021. First my old man Mr. Muggsy who loved a few of the front desk people to pieces and loved his canine coaches that would sit with him on the floor and cuddle with him as well as the groomer at that time. Muggsy definitely was my little wall flower that wanted the attention to come to him, mostly human that is. Now Petey, when he was a puppy I couldn't watch because he was so full of energy playing so hard. Now that he's settled down a bit I love watching him hover around the other trouble makers in the room, chasing after his canine coaches jumping and clawing them for attention, climbing on the play equipment, getting his zoomies in every now and then. We love the larger rooms at this location and of course both of my boys have loved the treat days, themed photo days, and themed craft days. We think the new management is amazing.
My suggestion to any first timers is don't make a decision based on one day of watching your dog. Normally there are different coaches in the am and pm and each has their particular ways. Each dog may do better with different coaches and different styles. Muggsy craved human affection so did better with those coaches willing to seek him out in the corner or by the wall and sit with him. Petey does great either way. He won't say no to a coach giving cuddles but loves to walk around and play with his fur-friends too.
The only cons I have is that I wish their outdoor area was more accessible so they could rotate rooms of dogs in and out throughout the day more easily. It would be nice if they were open one of the weekend days especially if you are considering boarding your dog it's always nice to have that extra day to be able to peek in on your pup. When I did a walk through of the building some time ago their suite space is limited in my opinion so probably better to book overnights...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf you want a groomer who doesnāt know how to book appointments properly, and a manager who blames you for it then go here. Melissa is the most rude and unprofessional person I have come across in this industry. I made multiple appointments with them and on the last 2 they have either changed the time on me or didnāt even enter my appointment into the books and when questioned about it they basically told me to F off because I was a ābad customerā and I ājust called to complainā (those are exact quotes by the way) I will admit I did no call no show one time because honestly thatās when they changed my appointment time on me kinda last minute and in the moment I said it would work but I booked that time WEEKS AGO, so I apologize if I canāt change my entire life schedule with only a 48 hours notice, they were actually consistently holding that against me even after apologizing and explaining the situation probably about 3 separate times. horrible place, canāt believe I trusted them with my animals, just happy my dogs are safe. Melissa and Tony should stick to just talking to the dogs bc they have proven they donāt know how to speak to humans properly. (Also if u ask for a corporate number Tony will just tell you he has no boss and āgood luck trying to find my imaginary bossā then will promptly hang up on you) As for the actual services provided, Melissa has given one of my dogs multiple ear infections by getting to much water in her ears, took her to the vet and they confirmed it. She was on special ear medicine for weeks because of this (I have the vet records to prove it) and my dogs came back smelly multiple times. If u want ur animal to be in a safe environment donāt let these...
