Cook's Meadow Loop Trailhead — Attraction in Oakhurst

An easy “entry level” hike around Yosemite.

I didn’t have a lot of time before sunset, but I came here because I wanted to experience the views of Yosemite without having to rush too much. This is a very family friendly hike.

Parking wasn’t too bad on a Saturday afternoon, but it was definitely crowded. You get to see a little bit of everything on this trail. Unfortunately, I came on 10/12 and it was very dry. No falls, low water and it was too early for fall colors. A few leaves were starting to turn or were brown, but there wasn’t much vibrancy.

The trail was crowded, but it wasn’t the most crowded hike I went on during this National Park road trip. I’d recommend coming here later in fall when the colors really start to pop, or in mid to late spring. Come in the late winter & bring a jacket! There was over 2' of snow in late March. The mist at Bridal Veil falls made my hands numb, I'll wear waterproof gloves next time. Wear snow boots or hiking boots so your not worried about water getting inside your sneakers. Why should you come before the spring? SMALL CROWDS & plentiful parking! :) After 2 pm I noticed more people, perhaps late arrivals? It wasn't hard to get people to stand back to let you take photos with your friends. There were enough people to ask someone to take your photo, but not so many people that it was hard to take photos. I saw plenty of hard core campers, sleeping in their tents in the snow! Absolutely loved this trail. We did an S shaped trail by combining it along with the lower Yosemite falls trail. We rode the green line shuttle to stop 6 for lower Yosemite falls, did the full falls trail, which ends on "accessible" side ( right side on map) at the trailhead for cook's. This trail ends right outside the Yosemite village. Easy walk to the village. This trail was suggested by the different at the welcome center....
