Not open when we visited, but it was lovely to visit anyway. There is a large locomotive, another car, and a caboose with lights on the fronts glowing. These sit in the front of the charming historic train station having beautiful classic features and great for photographing. It appears that periodically there are events...possibly musical entertainment on a stage built onto the front of a 'freight car' library. There is a small scale train track which I guess offers kids rides on a model train at certain times of the year. Directly across the street is the Motor Museum... check both out...

The staff were very friendly and welcoming and i was impressed with the detailed stories and history of the local railroad industry the museum covered. Worth noting this is a free museum but it is very small and limited exhibits. There is an engine and caboose that is hands on (you can tour inside) and a toybtrain set inside that the kids can use while adults read through the exhibits. Read moreVery friendly staff, free entry (cash donations accepted) and history about this old train station make this a must visit if visiting Oakland. It helps if you have a young child very into trains as toy train set up and the huge train outside make for great picture opportunities.
The whole meseum can be walked in about 15 minutes, it's not very big, but still a good place to visit to escape from the cold winter.
