We love to find old local places when we travel. Especially in such a tough economy. We’d rather support a family business than a chain. We were looking forward to looking around the antique store as well. However, the icy reception we received fr literally every person that worked there, especially our server, was so off putting that we ate as fast as we could, paid and left. Our server barely made eye contact or spoke. After dropping our food she left the check and never returned. Initially we thought she was was having a bad day. Which happens. I understand. I’ve served for over twenty years. When I went to the register to pay I was ignore by all three servers. When one finally came over she never spoke to me or looked at me. She grabbed my money, made change, then finally said, in a condescending manner, “Have a good day, Sweetheart.” The place was really dingy and dirty. Besides that, the rug service was there. They picked up the old dirty rugs and THREW the new ones down on top of filthy floors, kicking disgusting dirt all around our booth. We nearly walked out at that moment and I still wish I did. We paid $30+ for a very substandard meal. I’d really think twice before eating here. By the way, I would typically voice my concerns to the restaurant, rather than online but nobody was willing to listen. I tried at the front door but they weren’t...
Read moreWhat a gem! We visited Oakland for Labor Day weekend and decided to have breakfast in town one morning. We stumbled upon Englanders antique store and noticed they had a diner inside. It's the original diner/soda foundation counter that's been there since the 40s. It was busy but we recieved excellent, fast service. The bacon, eggs, and toast were delicious. I loved that they had everything we needed on the table, including straws, jelly, and syrup. After breakfast, we enjoyed strolling through the antique store. Lots of neat finds! Clean and well organized. If you go on a Saturday morning, you can walk from there to the Farmer's Market across the street (in season). Highly recommend Englanders! We will...
