Sold Tickets B4 telling us we would NOT be seeing the Movie in Main Auditorium. There's a HUGE difference between the balcony and the main auditorium. Seeing a movie in the balcony is like not being at the Marion Theater at all.
For several years I had been wanting to take my son (who is 14) to see a movie in a old movie Theater. He wanted to see Ready Player One so it seemed liked the perfect opportunity to take him to the Marion Theater which advertised it would be showing there. He said he preferred to go to Ocala Centre 6 or Regal Cinemas where they had 3D, but I convinced him to go to the Marion Theater at the 4:30 pm show on April 4, 2018.
After I paid for the tickets, the attendant told us to go upstairs to the balcony. I was like... huh?... because that was not what I was expecting. I also bought a drink and popcorn for about $9.
When we got to the top of the stairs and went through the curtains we were shocked to see that they divided up the Theater into 2 parts and we would not get to see the movie in a old grand theater like I told my son he would be seeing. I had never seen a movie theater divided up like this and didn't know such things existed.
We were the only people there and sat in the back row which was way too close to the screen for our liking. The seats were the most uncomfortable I think I've ever sat in. The look of the place made you feel like you were in a warehouse and was MOST unpleasant. We debated leaving after we were setting there for a few minutes but decided to stick it out since we already paid... and there was a notice which said no refunds.
For most people who choose to go to the Marion Theater, it's about the experience of getting to see a movie in an old theater. There's a HUGE difference between seeing the movie in the balcony and the main auditorium. Seeing a movie in the balcony is like not being at the Marion Theater at all.
I feel the staff should told us before we purchased our tickets that the theater had been divided up and the movie would be showing in the balcony. They should have let us see what the balcony was like so we could decided if we want to see it there.
I feel terrible about talking my son into going to Marion Theatre and would NEVER go there again to see another movie in the balcony. I think they should get some of their money back by selling the balcony projector and restore the theater back to how it...
Read moreFigured give this one a try. Showed up for a 1pm showing....at 1pm. Figured I had time to get a drink and the like before going in, as every theater everywhere else starts the credits at showtime. Walked in the theater it self at 1:05....to find I had missed previews....and 5 minutes of the movie. Theater was comfortable, but the screen has to be the smallest in town and the volume was so low that I could barely hear anything quiet (I've got great hearing) and the person I took to the movie (who's deaf in 1 ear) could barely hear anything outside of explosions. To top it off, the movie constantly had little white splotches popping up on the screen and every time they popped up, the speakers popped loudly.
Ended up paying to see the same movie again 3 days later elsewhere. Had been looking forward to checking this theater out and walked away with maybe the worst movie theater experience I had ever had....
Read moreThis was our first time seeing a show at this theatre. We loved it! We found this little gold nugget on a walk around the Ocala square. It is a charming theatre that has very friendly staff and I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the whole building including the bathroom. The prices are extremely reasonable including the refreshment counter. What a pleasant surprise! They even have customer appreciation day on Tuesday with free popcorn. So refreshing to have a privately owned theatre to go to instead of the huge mass chain ones. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars. We will become frequent movie goers to this theatre. The only negative that some people may think is that there are only 2 movies playing at a time. Not a negative to me. Quality over quantity is much better...
