Sport Haven Beach, while the most "crowded" beach in Brookings, is still a fantastic place to visit. With plenty of parking right on the waterfront, it's a great place to park and just take in the view. A small cement wall is the only thing that separates you from the Pacific Ocean only meters away, so you are literally front and center! This is my favorite beach to come have a cup of coffee from Cosmic Grind, or an ice cream from Slugs and Stones as there is so much to see, even if you don't want to get out of your vehicle... See if you can spot the lighthouses (there are two visible on a clear day)! Surfers can be seen here frequently and are mesmerizing to watch as they ride the often glassy waves. I've also seen several species of whale here, including greys, blues and even an orca! Sunset is particularly breathtaking. We love watching all the boats drift back into port as the sun sinks into the ocean. Beachcombing is often rewarding, as Sport Haven is situated at the mouth of the Chetco River. Unique driftwood, sea glass, agates and shells can be found due to the dynamics of the river and...
Read moreA very interesting place where you can park a few feet from the beach adjacent to the private and commercial craft marina and a commercial campground with all of their amenities. Step out on to the beach at the confluence of the year round fishing for salmon and steelhead Chetco River for a stroll or even have a beach fire, when conditions allow, for the day or well into the evening! Quite the pleasant place to satisfy that need to commune with the Pacific Ocean experience that is The Southern Oregon Coast in the more urban setting that is the pleasant communities of Brookings north of the river and Harbor south of the river! ENJOY ALL! You've earned it just by finding this little piece...
Read moreMy all time favorite beach. I have been here about 60 times and I don't live anywhere near here, it's the beach right in front of Beach Front Inn which is my favorite hotel on the West Coast. I've been here in rain, shine, fog, and wind- it's always beautiful. I have way too many pictures of this beach but I will choose some of my favorites. I've hiked as far as you can go in both directions. I've had a romantic dinner here, bonfires here- once we cooked hobo dinners, played in the ocean, and I've seen quite a bit of sea life here- sea otters, sea lions, fish, starfish, oysters, crabs, etc. We also saw one year a creative little village someone built, took a few pictures of that. I...
