I'm not even sure where to start with this gift shop. We stayed in Brookings for 6 days. We wanted to shop for gifts to take home. Honestly, there are not a lot of options. Most places are only open Weds-Sat. We went to Beachfront Gifts. We saw the fresh fudge sign! I mean YUM! We go in and there are TONS of gifts and reasonably priced. There were 10 in our group and a couple other people came in. Several of our group bought lots of shirts and knickknack gifts. When you check out at the counter there is the big selection of fudge. I ordered a pound and paid for my things. The next in our group ordered a piece of fudge. By the 3rd person the older gal at the register got angry. She said "what are all of you buying fudge?" She tells the 2nd person "get your stuff and move on". At this point I was SHOCKED at her demeanor. The fourth couple are up to pay for their stuff and get some fudge. The gal got extremely hasty and was clearly irritated. She told them "hurry up I'm busy". The rest of our group put their items back and we left.
To Beachfront Gifts- YOU ADVERTISE FRESH FUDGE. If you don't want people to buy it (which takes a minute to package up) DON'T SELL IT. Period. You are one of a couple of gift shops in the area. You have a potential gold mine simply from sales of tourists. Yet, you scold them for purchasing your products? Makes zero sense. Some customer service training would greatly benefit...
Read moreWe’ve been going to this shop for at least 10 years during our family vacations. The fudge is absolutely delicious! HOWEVER, we’ve noticed an unfortunate change in this “gift” shop. It used to be full of a variety of great products like wall art, t-shirts, sweatshirts, Beachy art, jewelry, etc. During the last 3 years or so we’ve watched it go downhill. There’s empty shelves! And the walls are empty with nails that used to hold really cool and unique wall art and other things. I heard the new owner is being cheap and not very smart about owning a business. We’re here with friends and family throughout the year. We also attract people to this area every year. So to the owner: if you’re going to advertise this store as a “gift shop” then bring back the products that people can buy. It used to be full of great stuff! The same dang T-shirts that were there last year are still there! Don’t be a slum business owner. Take pride in this area and your store. It’s a beautiful area here and it’s sad the one gift store in Harbor constantly looking like it’s closing. You have no idea what a gem you have. At least you’ve kept the yummy...
Read moreNormally one of my favorite places to go at the coast for many years now. Just love browsing this little place. When i stopped in this last time at 3:55pm on a Saturday, the employee was very rude and kept saying she was closing in five minutes because she was tired and didn't sleep the night before. There were several customers coming in and she just kept repeating this, to hurry everyone out the door. We felt very uncomfortable, so we just bought some nuts and left. Which i wish i hadn't given my business at all that day, but the nuts are my fave... so i gave in. As we were walking to the car another couple was leaving, and very upset with how they were treated said they would never give their business to them again. Yikes! Could have been handled way differently by this owner or employee, or whoever the cranky person was working that day. I will probably go back next time i am at the coast, but it really didn't sit...
