I’m not one to usually leave reviews, however, I experienced a very unpleasant incident at Ocean Suites and must bring it to the attention of prospective guests.
My daughter and I along with my four young grandsons reserved a room for two days at Ocean Suites for a much-needed outing. Upon check-in, the desk clerk was friendly and accommodating. We settled into our room eager to unwind, looking forward to experiencing the excitement of the children during our stay. Our first walk to the beach, the children hopped on their scooters anxious for their first beach experience of the year, due to the difficult times we are living in. We returned to the motel with a tired baby ready for his nap. We then enjoyed sitting in front of our room while the older boys continued to ride their scooters around our area. With our room door open my daughter and I were in and out of our room to check on the baby, and get snacks, drinks, etc. for the boys. While visiting with guests next to us, we noticed a gentleman visiting with them as well. Shortly after, while in our room this same gentleman stepped into our room in a very aggressive manner, yelling at us regarding the children on their scooters. We had no idea who this gentleman was. This was very disturbing and distressful as we were alone with four small children. Shortly after the incident, my daughter approached the desk clerk to ease our concerns. The desk clerk informed us that she had no knowledge of this gentleman and took down his license plate number, explaining it may be a guest. This left us with an even greater sense of uneasiness throughout the entire evening. The next morning the kids were riding their scooters close to the room while loading our vehicle to head out for breakfast. We were approached once again by the desk clerk regarding the children riding the scooters. The desk clerk was considerate and professional with his request and of course, we accommodated. However, we were still disturbed regarding the mysterious man who entered our room enraged. Explaining our concern to the desk clerk, we were informed that the gentleman was the owner of the establishment. My daughter and I were astonished to find out that the owner of the establishment demonstrated such hostile behavior towards guests. Two women traveling alone. We attempted to emphasize to the desk clerk our concerns regarding the way the owner treated us. Invading our privacy, making us uneasy and uncomfortable. The incident wasn’t about the children riding scooters, it was about how the owner handled the situation. Very aggressive and unprofessional. Our trip to Brookings was supposed to be relaxing and enjoyable. The desk clerk insisted on defending the owner. He told us that we were not monitoring the children, which was untruthful. At this point, we felt degraded and lied to. We were definitely not comfortable spending our second night at Ocean Suites, we checked out and will...
Read moreI called 2 weeks beforehand to reserve a room with 2 queen beds for Labor Day weekend for the Slam'n Salmon Fishing Derby. I was told that they only had single queens available for that weekend so I said to go ahead and reserve 2 as there were 3 people in our party. When we arrived on Friday evening, we checked in and were given the room keys for our rooms. We stopped at the first room and were surprised to see a queen in the living area as well as a queen in its own bedroom. This is the only one we needed to begin with.
We went back to the office before even entering the second room and told the man at the front desk (who declared that he was the owner) that we had requested a room with 2 queens and told that there wasnt one available. It seems that they had put us in one and that we did not need the second room. He told us that we reserved 2 rooms and he was charging us for 2 rooms.
We requested that he try to rent the second one out so we could get at least part of our money back. He was unable to rent it the first night, but did get it rented the second night. When we went into the office prior to leaving on the last day he informed us that he would not refund any of our money for the second room. He would credit us for a night in the future.
Staff lied to get us into two rooms and then when it was brought to thier attention, they refused refund, rented the room out even and still refused refunding. I will never stay there again and I hope everyone thinks twice before renting a room from the thieves who...
Read moreIn June 2025 i stayed in a 2-queen room/suite, specifically I was in #203. The room was in great shape, very clean, very well equipped, very well maintained. The most impressive "features" are the supplies/service (more detail below). Having a full kitchen is great, if you have stayed at places like Hilton Homewood Suites, this place outshines that, better supplies and equipped, better quality. The room itself may not have a layout that benefits everyone, limited seating and lounging inside, although i suspect most are not there to spend their time in the room. It is a 3 minute walk to the beach, multiple restaurants walkable also from 2 to 10 minute stroll. Staff is friendly and helpful, and i was not just another guest, they remembered me beyond what I would have expected. The best stuff about this room/service? the Supplies. I got real Dawn Dish Soap in kitchen, in ample amount. I got quality hand and body soap in Bathroom. Plenty of good quality paper towels, and good quality kitchen towel, wash cloth, and brand new sponge - even some aluminum foil supplied. These items are what my pictures outline, may seem like small things to some, but if you ever stayed at any vacation clubs, house rentals, or hotel setups with kitchens, you should recognize that most others will cheap out on quality/brand and/or amounts of on-day-1 supplies, as well as the quality of cookware and such, here it is impressive. I will stay here...
