It takes a lot for me to get my hair done professionally because I don’t have a ton of extra money to spend. Any extra money usually goes towards bills or my baby. So getting my hair cut/colored was my Mother’s Day/Birthday present this year and I was so excited to finally be getting it done! It needed some freshening up. Well, things didn’t turn out how I had planned, unfortunately. The cut I received was great and the stylist was very nice, which is why I gave it 2 stars; I would give 2.5 but I can’t do halves and feel that 3 is a neutral number and I don’t feel neutral about my experience. The problem with my visit was the color. I showed the stylist a picture of what I wanted and talked through it with her and was excited for how it would end up looking. I had scheduled a balayage as I wanted my all over color fixed (I had about 3-4 different colors in my hair from grow out and having my hair colored a while back) and then get a second color added in for dimension; so in the end I wanted 2 colors because I was tired of having multiple browns in my hair. The stylist ended up only putting highlights in (making it now 4-5 different colors in my hair) and I still had to pay for a balayage. My roots were very grown out when I went in and you would have never guessed that I just spent $150 to get my hair done when I left because my roots looked the exact same. I wanted my hair darker but I ended up leaving with lighter hair because I just got highlights without any other color being added, so it lightened up my hair A LOT. When I brought up the fact that I scheduled & paid for a balayage and the only thing that got done was getting highlights, I was told I could schedule a root touch up to make them darker but I’d have to pay for it, which didn’t make sense that I would have to pay for a service that was already included in what I just paid - I was told when I originally scheduled my appointment that a balayage covered the all over color and the second color, plus extra for any additional color used, which I was fine with. And the problem with the root touch up, besides me having to spend even more, is that it would only fix the roots problem and not fix the rest of my hair that they wouldn’t be able to darken unless they did everything all over again and I pay for another balayage. So, unfortunately, I had to by some root touch up from Walmart because that was a much cheaper option and I really needed my roots done. It’s frustrating spending so much money on something that turns out nothing like what you wanted and then be told I’d have to pay more to get it fixed. Definitely $150 NOT well spent. I know not all stylist are the same, but I won’t be chancing...
Read moreI never thought I could feel such bliss.
I thought it was going to be another normal day, moving through work, school, home, and sleep. I had grown tired of this sluggish cycle, and boy did I have a surprise coming for me! As I walked into this beautiful building, I though I was walking through the glorious gates of heaven themselves. The aroma itself was enough to make my heart miss a beat. As I walked around inside, I began to feel my spirit and body unite, not just in a physical sense but a philosophical sense as well. Indeed, I had truly become one with the universe in this moment.
But that was only the beginning.
As the angel that answered me brought me to my throne to await my haircut, I began to have doubts. It all seemed too good to be true! I took off my glasses and walked over to the hair washing station. As the liquid gold drained out of the faucets, I felt years of age drain from my face. I felt like a child again, dancing through a meadow without a care for the world. As the faucet closed off, the assistant led me to the throne to await my redemption. As the hair stylist walked up, I simply stated “The usual, please” and they knew what I meant. I couldn’t see my hair, but after a long wait the stylist said it was done. As I put on my glasses, I looked at my hair.
I looked only for a nanosecond, a tiny window of light which flooded every light receiver in my eyes, causing a euphoria so great I couldn’t breath. As my spirit began to transcend into the 4th dimension, I realized a mortal such as myself couldn’t withstand such greatness. I grabbed the scissors out of the stylists hands and with every ounce of willpower in me I cut a single strand of hair, breaking the spell. I quickly paid and got out of there.
TL:DR: This Glorious building is literally heaven on earth, but be warned; only the strongest of mind can withstands...
Read moreI recently made an appointment at Amara to get my haircut. I had a one length bob that went at least two inches below my chin, and I wanted to get it shaped to a more rounded, graduated bob. I went in and showed the stylist pictures of how I wanted my hair to look. She looked at them and asked a few questions and then washed and started to cut me hair. At first, my hair seemed fine, she cut the length and I was digging it, however when she started to cut the layers, I could tell she was being completely sloppy. As a hair stylist myself, I started to feel uneasy as I saw that she was grabbing uneven chunks and just cutting away. The end result looked okay, I just felt that something was odd with it. I got home to find she had completely cut into the length of the hair, it was really choppy uneven, and I had holes in my hair on both sides under my ears and below my cheeks, and my front piece was cut at a blunt angle and two inches shorter that the rest of my hair. I felt my heart sink and I just started to cry, I was mortified! It looked horrible, so I went back and showed them the error, and they were able to arrange someone else to fix it for me, and she did such an amazing job, I am forever grateful for her! They said they’d give me my money back, but what they really meant was that you wouldn’t get a refund, it would instead cover the cost to fix your hair. So I’m out $45 (that’s not including tip).
Over all, Amara is not worth the price for haircuts. It is way too expensive, and frankly I’ve gotten better haircuts at Fantastic Sams. The atmosphere was snobby, I got weird looks because I came in wearing sweat pants (on a really cold day). I was not impressed at all, and I don’t think the salon is worth the hype at all. I feel like I could have done a better job if I cut my hair myself. Save your money and...
