Got a bone to pick with the meat department at your local supermarket? I know I do - and that’s why I seek out butchers or speciality suppliers. It’s slim pickings around the Orlando and Winter Park areas, which is why I was thrilled to see a new option in the Audubon Park ‘hood that’s already proving to be a cut above the rest.
I discovered Meat ‘N Bone after finding out that my favorite butcher off Orange and Fairbanks in WP had closed up shop. The shop has only been opened for a few months, and it’s really more of a retailer for pre-packaged cuts - so no actual butchering on premises.
But on the plus side, the meat comes direct from farms in South Florida and Omaha, Nebraska - so great origin points for American Wagyu and complete lifecycle grassfed beef. 🥩
And let me say: the cuts I cooked up were fantastic. I bought filet mignon in two varieties, and spent hours on prep before dropping into my cast iron skillet and finishing in a hot oven. At medium rare, I’d put them up against any steak I’ve cooked or eaten out - so a big thumbs up.
Meat ‘N Bone offers the same pre-packaged cuts for pork, poultry, and several kinds of seafood - scallops, Mahi Mahi, and other fresh catch that’s seasonally available.
The store also features table accouterments like dips and sauces, so a good spot to find a last minute gifts for your culinary-leaning family and friends.
Also, DO NOT LEAVE without a bag of Beefy’s Own Beef Tallow Potato Chips. These fried wonders will curl your toes. No lie.
Let’s talk price. As you might expect, these speciality cuts are the finest you can buy, so be ready to drop some cash. The Wagyu was a bit of a shocker, and just a couple of cuts could run you over $100. Not for the faint of heart, but definitely worth it if you’re after quality.
The shop is located along Corrine in Audubon, right next to the Redlight Redlight brewery and the other quaint stores in the strip. Parking is a little tight, so be flexible. But brave it - because it’s...
Read moreHoly aggressive sales pitch Batman. A "seemingly" cool spot, that seems like it probably has some good things, but ya'll need to work on your employees aggressive sales pitches.
I walked in and just wanted to browse but was accosted by a sales pitch that included pointing to a photo of the owners on the wall, and the background of the place, and walking me around to every shelf and pointing out all the meats, and telling me all about the quality and where it came from, etc, etc. I just wanted to casually browse a place and discover it on my own, but got roped into a 4 to 5 minute sales pitch about the business I didn't ask for but was trying to be polite about.
I finally had to cut it off and say "thanks for the info, I appreciate it, we're just going to browse though". I thought that was the end of it, until the woman a few minutes later grabbed meat from a cooler behind the counter and tried to get me to come over for another sales pitch by going "hey come here, let me show you something" with a few slabs of meat on the counter. I just said "no thanks, I'm good." and walked out. It's too much guys. Figure out how to get your employees to quickly set up what the business is, and than just be around if the customers have questions. I don't want to be roped into a sales pitch like I accidentally stumbled into a Time Share pitch. It comes across like your employees make commission and are desperate...
Read moreJust stopped in today before walking in to a bar next door because what kind of man can just walk by a meat store and not go check it out. Thomas I believe was his name was so incredibly kind and informative and such a great conversationalist. Wish I could've grabbed something (didn't want the meat to go bad while I was eating at the bar next door and they were closed by the time I got out) but man I feel bad because of how awesome that guy was. Will definitely be back to try some of the interesting cuts of game that they have and might have to convince my friends on a wagyu night because they have authentic Japanese A5 Would also like to add that I love that every cut of beef has their rating on it so you can get lower grade wagyu that's not Japanese but is well above USDA and they have plenty options. Amazing meat store with...
