I want to take a few moments to recognize and thank TableTop games for providing outstanding customer service and support that demonstrates the value of purchasing board games from local table top game shops versus online.
A couple of months ago, I purchased Smallworld from the store. I love it – it hits the right spot for someone who is a gamer like me and those who aren’t. I have a game night coming up next weekend, and wanted to purchase an expansion so that six can play. This past Thursday, I purchased the Sky Islands expansion from TableTop. When I got home and went to give it a play test with a friend, I discovered that I received two of one of the punch cards and was missing another. In essence, it was an incomplete expansion pack.
The next day I went back to TableTop to return the game and swap it out for another one. At first the attendant wanted me to work out an exchange with the manufacturer on my own rather than swap it out for a new (and hopefully complete) copy of the expansion. Who knows how long and convoluted that process would’ve been. I expressed my interest in a simple swap for a different copy of the expansion, and he agreed to swap them out.
This is the value that you get from purchasing locally. I’ve now purchased two games and expansion from TableTop and will continue to bring my business there. While online vendors can offer the same, or even slightly better prices, purchasing at the game store supports a local business, provides a greater level of customer service, and an overall more satisfying experience.
Had TableTop games insisted that I contact the manufacturer about the incomplete game and refused to work with me to make an exchange, that would’ve been the end of my patronage at the store. The value proposition would’ve swung disproportionately to an online vendor in place of the local game store, as levels of customer service would’ve been the same (or even less, to be honest). However that decision to stand by their customer and offer exceptional service and value has reinforced my commitment to purchase locally from TableTop and ensured I remain a customer going forward.
Many thanks to the team there for offering a great store that cares about customer experience. ...
Read moreTabletop is the GOAT of game stores in Kansas City. At 53 years old I've seen the store in 4 different locations and watched it grow over the years. When it comes to game stores its certainly a Kansas City legend and if you've never been there you should.
We'll start with the store part. If you can't find the game you're looking for here you probably aren't going to find it anywhere. Their selection of games is vast, and easily the largest selection in all of the city. Everything from roleplaying, wargaming, collectible card gaming, board gaming, and everything else gaming in between can be found here. If you're a tabletop gamer you could easily spend hours in those isles just looking at games.
Now let's talk about their gaming area where you can play games. Its large and easily one of the largest in KC. As for private rooms, they have more of those than anywhere else in the city. If your game group craves a private room this is the place to be. Next door they've added a game Cafe which is sort if a separate place and offers some nice food and drink options while gaming. The combination of the two places really makes this a tabletop gamers paradise.
When it comes to the staff they are also great. They know the store and the games within them and they care about getting customers games they're gonna love. However know that at any time of day here there's a lot of customers in and out those doors. This can cause the staff to be very busy with questions and business which leaves them less chit chat time than some other game stores. They're always super friendly, they just don't always have the time to chat it up with any one person for long.
At the end of the day all I have to say about Tabletop Game and Hobby is that you totally should go here. This will be the greatest game store you'll ever...
Read moreWent to the store to look at Warhammer 40K models for my brother and myself (since we've always wanted to get into the game for nearly 20 years, but were too intimidated by the building/painting of the models). My brother's 30th birthday is coming up, and I wanted to do something nice for him and get him the "Dark Vengeance" starter set. Turns out the store was having a sale that weekend, and I got the set for about $75 (about $25 off normal price). The owner of the shop hung out with us, and we geeked out over Orks (his and my personal favorite army) and all kinds of 40K lore for nearly 2 hours after the store closed (we were the last purchase of the day). He even gave us lots of tips and tricks on getting our models primed and painted, and offered to help us paint them once we assembled the models...all we had to do was bring them in and he'd help us out. We got a free bottle of glue, and since we were brand new to the game, he gave us several old issues of White Dwarf, and a couple old Codices he had laying around (specifically, the Space Marine Codex and Eldar Codex) just so we could have more lore and fluff to read up on.
Overall, I had an AMAZING and incredibly enjoyable experience at this shop, and I consider myself now a loyal customer for life. I feel really great about my purchase and I'm excited to finally be a part of the miniature wargaming community. All I need to do now is wait for the new Ork codex to come out and get my...
