Summer Moon Coffee - an aesthetically clean coffeeshop with an extensive drink menu and a good selection of pastries. This isn’t a location for a coffee purist as this location focuses on flavored varietals and their in-house made “moon” milk, which I was told was a daily prepared mix of sweet creme and regular milk. The interior is long and somewhat narrow, with tables and chairs along one side of the wall and as you move towards the rear, it opens up a bit more with a larger 6-person table. Some of the chairs are more comfortable than others, and there are additional seating options outside, in the front and rear. There didn’t appear to be any dine in cups, and everything was prepared in takeaway, which is a bit of a shame. Overall, it’s a decent shop if you are looking for a flavored coffee. I had two during my visit, a iced moon latte, basically an iced latte equivalent with their moon milk, and then a cortado. The latte, was decent, but overly sweet for my tastes. I found the moon milk to really mask the flavor of the actual coffee and couldn’t taste anything but. The cortado was underwhelming, but I can’t knock them too much on that since that is not their area of focus. I might visit this location again in the future and try one of their seasonal varieties when I’m looking for something on the sweeter...
Read moreI LOVE Summer Moon’s coffee & have gone there many times while I’m in the city. I recommend them to so many people. I usually get their nitro iced coffee or toasted s’mores iced latte (they’ll make it for me year round) :)
The last few times I’ve gone there I haven’t felt as welcome. Sometimes the barista at the register is just straight to the point & not super friendly. Sometimes there’s a barista working their butt off at the register while 3-4 coworkers stay standing behind chatting & not doing anything. One time there were only 2 baristas there in the evening & they didn’t seem like they wanted to be there (there was a slight rush & they seemed overworked- so I understand), but I left disappointed at the service.
I’ve bought beans here a few times and love them, but no one has been able to tell me about the taste or help guide me to a bag they like or think I’d like.
Being polite is everything to me & I try give the benefit of the doubt. Overall, I still love Summer Moon & will go back. Just wish I was greeted more friendly at times when I’m spending over $6-$7 on a coffee (& if my fiancé is with me- we’re usually spending...
Read moreWith my last day here in Kansas (Olathe/Lenexa area), I wanted to hit all highly rated coffee shops in Olathe, Overland Park and Shawnee areas. Total of 8 today, already visited 7 others in the earlier part of the week. Unique about this coffee shop is that it’s the most crowded I’ve seen. It has bright and airy feel and large open area for dine in and for folks to be situated to mingle or work. It also offers frozen strawberry and raspberry lemonade drinks. Aside from typical pastries, they offer Rice Krispies, donuts and kolaches! The staff were very friendly and personable, very informative about what is popular on their menu. Because I literally have 4 coffee concoctions to finish, I wanted to get a food item that’s not offered in other coffee shops; so I ordered a cheddar and sausage kolache. The kolache is a 3, nothing special but a hotdog and cheddar cheese. But ambiance and service are a 5. Food was a 3 so I’ll say a 4 for this coffee shop. Maybe I’ll be back next time to try their...
