I usually go to the First Watch in Westport but today since we were trtna grab breakfast before my husband had to go to work we went here. We figured First Watch in Westport is amazing this place has to be also right? Wrong!! The wait time to be seated was quick which at Westport can be a hit or miss this was walked in and was seated. Staff was nice. That's where the 2 stars stop. I ordered seasoned potatoes, pork sausage. The husband ordered the I think The Traditional breakfast which is eggs, toast, potatoes, bacon. The orange juice I received was a major disappointment. It honestly taste like dirty oranges were used in making it. It had an awful taste. We received the food quickly which I wish we hadn't. My potatoes were burnt, and overly seasoned with salt. My pork sausage was good I can say that. My husbands eggs were scrambled but runny a bit also, his potatoes weren't burnt like mine but were saaaalty he couldn't eat them. The toast was delicious it was nicely toasted and had a fair amount of butter. His bacon he said was OK. He didn't enjoy his orange juice but we both got it down. I used the hot sauce to be able to eat my potatoes. By the way the pork sausage with hot sauce on it is delicious 😂 think I'll give it another star for that. 3 stars is a fair 🤷 maybe. The waitress was nice, they have wifi for catching up with business or just to surf and eat. I wouldn't go here again though. The Westport menu has a...
Read moreThe food was excellent in terms of the flavours, portions, and the variety on the menu. Our server was attentive and pleasant. The ambience is warm and homely.
Unsurprisingly, the main disappointment was the host, who upon seeing we’re the only two non-white people in the restaurant, showed us to a really small table despite: a) bigger tables being available and b) several people sitting in pairs or even by themselves at bigger tables.
I don’t expect FW to learn or train its staff to treat all people equally, which is the least an establishment should be ideally doing. But the least your staff (especially the host/ess) can be instructed to do is not be superficially warm and nice — such fake behavior stinks, is embarrassing and very obvious.
The colour of the customers’ skin should not decide how they should be treated.
It is ludicrous how the hospitality industry here without the exception of FW act like they’re entitled to receive tips from customers, when they don’t treat people equally. Genuinely good service and products increase the LIKELIHOOD of tipping, which is a PRIVILEGE, NOT a right.
The quality of the service should not be contingent upon how customers look or how likely they are to tip. This FW’s values and vision became abundantly clear in our first and last experience at...
Read moreMy mother and I headed into the restaurant for breakfast and were shown to a table. Just before we took our seats, my mom inquired if there was a booth available. The waitress then snatched the menus from the table with one of them ending up on the floor, which she didn't bother to pick up. She then slammed the remaining menus she was holding onto our new table.
In addition, she nearly collided with my mom as she swung around so fast to walk away. This was the rudest experience we've ever had at a restaurant.
We took a moment to process what had just happened and decided to leave. Unsurprisingly, the guy waiter at the front didn't even attempt to inquire about what had gone wrong.
Furthermore, we wondered whether the menu the waitress had flung to the floor had been cleaned off or simply handed to the next guest!
I used to place weekly pickup orders from this place on my way to work during weekdays, but I stopped after this incident.
Given the crowded breakfast competition in Johnson County, you would expect First Watch to make a concerted effort to retain the few customers they have left.
Fortunately, following this unpleasant experience, my mother and I went to Snooze, where we received exceptional customer service and enjoyed great food. 5 Stars for Snooze, none for First Watch...
