I was visiting the Palm Beach Gardens area to see family over the holidays, and wanted to be able to work out and (somewhat) guiltlessly indulge in the typical sweets one sees around that time of year. I stopped in expecting the worst but hoping for the best, not anticipating to be accommodated by a gym selling monthly and yearly memberships. An employee named Bri (spelling?) went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure I was able to get my daily exercise in at a minimum cost to me, the customer, given the specials they were running at the time. Additionally, I found the facility to be one of the best gyms I've used. My comparison will be based on a Planet Fitness I was a member of in Cambridge, MA; another PF in Brooklyn, NY, and a Blink Fitness (local NYC franchise) in Brooklyn NY.
1.) The overall facilities were immaculate, and not once did I ever see something that made me say 'ugh that's so gross... gym people...'
2.) There were plenty of machines to use, especially popular ones. Dudes want big arms and a big chest. Ladies want nice legs and a nice butt. Everyone wants abs. There's like, at least 4, of all of those machines. Getting one is never an issue.
3.) Plenty of space overall. I'm gradually growing numb to the overcrowding in New York City; but to not have to dodge some dude jumping rope as I go into the locker room because there's literally nowhere else to jump rope... That was refreshing. Even on a weekend day around noon, it was never what I would call crowded. Granted, I did not get to do my workout in the order I like to do it. But, at no point was I waiting for a machine or just skipped something because I didn't have all day to hang out at the gym.
4.) Music. At my current gym where I'm a regular member, the music is either so loud that I can hear it over my own music in my headphones, or so quiet you can literally hear a person breathing on the other side of the gym. I never noticed how good or bad the music was because it was creating just enough background noise to not make it awkwardly quiet.
5.) My only constructive criticism would be of the TVs, and that certainly does not warrant the deduction of a star. The PF in Cambridge MA that I used to go to had a TV on every elliptical, treadmill, etc. Here, there are giant screens with the typical cable news and basic cable networks. Given that most people have Netflix now, and it can be easily accessed on a smartphone or tablet, I think this is likely a non-issue nowadays. But worth pointing out because there are some Luddites out there.
All in all, kudos to PF PBG. I wish my local gym had their act together on the level that you guys do. Give...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis Planet fitness is poorly managed & maintained. I have been a planet fitness member for almost 3 years now&my home location is the palm beach gardens location. When I signed up initially for the "black card" my main purpose was to use the Tanning beds. When I first signed up the tanning beds were new and powerful but have slowly gone downhill. I have contacted and spoke to the general manager TYLER CRESWELL over 20 times in the past 7 months about replacing the DEAD BULBS in tanning bed . After hounding him for nearly 4months he assured me he just changed all the bulbs in the lay down booth . When I went to tan after I noticed the 1 dead bulb had been changed but the facial bulb and 4 others were completely dead. I Continuously contacted the gm after he lied about all bulbs being replaced he continually strung me along PROMISING me a day they would be changed. Now 7months later they lay down booth has no working facial bulbs and over 7body bulbs are completely dead. This is horrible customer service. If you cant maintain the tanning bed THEN DONT OFFER THAT SERVICE. AS SOMEONE WHO WORKED AT A WELL KNOWN TANNING SALON AND IN CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR 10+ YEARS THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. The 2 stand up beds are just as bad with all bulbs needing replacement. In addition the tanning rooms and bathrooms are dirty & disgusting. There is always trash on the floor in tanning rooms as they removed trash cans from rooms ,floors are disgustingly dirty and brown goop drips from dirty walls. The owner of this establishment needs to get better management. Jessica the night shift girl has done her best to help me and do her part by notifying Tyler the gm and he has done nothing. Jessica should get a raise & the owner really should take better care of this business be cause it's going downhill fast! PHOTOS...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThat most southerly gym is the worst of them in the area (heading north). I have to redue my schedule to see if I can avoid it⦠the problem is thatās the gym thatās open the latest on the weekend. The music is too loud in bathroom (like a nightclub bathroom sometimes-but louder) and outside usually smells bad. Last night it was as if there was a fire nearby! But then the parking lot has that flat odorless air⦠even when thereās a breeze. Itās just weird there at night. The paper towel dispenser was broken again and thereās never any cleaning spray in the bathrooms (for the shower). It could be so much better⦠easily. At least the staff there is nice (now that the mute biological man that was allowed to see us naked in the shower area is gone). And at least the staff speaks fluent English at this location. Itās fine there except for mostly the allowance of smokers outside and being forced to listen to that music. Softer techno or jazz-type music would be more neutral for those of we monastic, Buddhist, Christian (Orthodox whatever) or even just conservative or meditative adults. Some of us made sacrifices⦠listening to popular music being one of them. The more grown-up gym is LA Fitness⦠low lighting up front, less noisy⦠but they have their issues too; thatās why I left. People have their music with them already (and even double up on the noise in the shower area). So why subject guests to popular music when we just want to clear our heads, rest after a rough day or to prep...
