A hidden gem! I have lived in Palm Desert for over three years, and didn't know about this place until a neighbor mentioned it. We took the Herb Jeffries trail, cut across through Hopalong Cassidy to end up back where we started. Parking is limited, but I think one could park on a residential street, walk across the bridge to the trail head. Our 6- and 4-year olds didn't have a problem, and while our two-year old was willing to walk it, I was concerned about him falling. We did encounter a couple of runners as well as mountain bikers, so keep that in mind. Bring water. And warm clothing if hiking during cooler weather. It gets chilly once the sun gets behind the mountains. There's a restroom at the entrance to the park, and some of the trails are open to canine companions, but check the posted signs.

We didn’t know what to expect of palm desert as it was just the location of our hotel on a road trip through, but wow the scenery here was lovely and we took some time to explore this local hiking park area. Definitely come early in the hot season and bring water and good shoes. Great trail system. The map at the front isn’t great but all trails helps. Parking is easy but not a ton of if.

Dog friendly hike. Three trails join to make this hike as long or short as you like. Gabby Hayes trail links to the Homestead Trail for a very nice 2 hour loop. Add the extension of the up and back to the Palm Desert Cross. Additionally without dogs you can connect to other trails for longer hike South up the valley on the Hopalong Cassidy trail.

Saw at least 10 bighorn sheep 🐏 this morning 🌄 around 9am near the trailhead (2nd bend B&G trail). Lots of young ones. One with collar. A bit skittish if you get too close. One moved quickly & started a rock slide. Great experience seeing them so close 👍🐏🌄🏜️. Just wish I had my good cam 📷with me. Took a few photos with my potato 🥔...
