I dont even know where to start with this one.
Immediately upon getting our keys and opening the door, it was apparent that there was this thick layer of black dust/dirt on literally every surface. Im not sure if it was leftover residue from laying the floors, or if it was just dust from outdoors that had blown into the apartment over the course of months, but it was gross. We could not take our shoes off in the apartment until we had mopped the floors 3 times. It was a very, very bad first impression upon move-in.
Within a month of moving in, in late January, our front door handle failed and would not open. In order to gain access to the apartment again, the maintenance person that was there at the time kicked the door in, destroying the handle/latch. The dead bolt still worked, but the regular latch did not so the front door would not stay shut without the dead bolt. We were told it would be fixed within a day. Maintenance came by quickly and tried to fix it, then determined that they would need to replace the entire door.
So then I was told that the new door was ordered. Then I was told that the door was delayed. Then I was told that the door was the wrong size and needed to be reordered. Then I was told that they needed to get 2 maintenance people there at once to install the new door, so they needed more time. Throughout all this, I probably called them 20ish times and tried to show up at the office multiple times, but they completely stopped picking up the phone the after the first few phone calls, and they were never in the office when I showed up during their posted business hours.
Finally a new maintenance person showed up in July and installed a metal plate on the existing front door and finally fixed the issue. No new door, and literally 6-7 months after their original maintenance person had to break the door down. We spent half our time living here without a working front door.
Then there's the water shut-offs. There are so. So. So many. When I moved in, they were posting paper notices on everyone's doors whenever there was emergency water maintenence. I wasn't keeping track at the time, but there were a lot, probably two a month. The water would usually only be shut off for a few hours in the afternoon, but sometimes it was all day or multiple days. They switched to emailing people the water shut-off notices in November 2024. Between late November and February, I received 10 water shut-off notices on different dates. Literally 2-3 a month.
Speaking of water, do not expect to be able to do laundry here. In our experience, maybe 1 or 2 of the 8 washing machines in each of the laundry rooms would be working at any given time. Spread between a couple hundred apartments, expect to need to go to a laundromat.
The apartments are spacious, but the cabinets and doors and windows are in rough shape. The cabinets have clearly been repainted over and over, they feel like plywood, and the hardware kept loosening or falling out of the saturated, old wood which made a lot of the cabinets and drawers crooked.
We also cleaned that apartment top to bottom when we left. We were also charged a ~$220 cleaning fee. We left the apartment so much cleaner than it was when we received it, that really felt awful. After we had moved out and received the bill, I was finally able to call the office and get through to someone. Im not even sure who it was, as management had changed a few times without any notice sent out to us. The person on the phone told me, "I try to tell residents not to break their backs cleaning because we do charge this fee." I had called the office probably 10 different times during the move out process, and no one ever picked up the phone or returned my messages. The only reason that we were able to make sure that our move-out notice was even being processed was through Raquel, the head of maintenance. Raquel rocks. She was pretty much the only person that helped us during move-out.
So, yeah. Just look somewhere else. There are cheaper, nicer places in town with working,...
Read moreCant say enough bad things about this place. Way over priced for what youre getting. Apartments are “redone” but still incredibly outdated. Theyre just polished turds. Cabinets and walls are all old and beat up just w new paint on them. Single pane windows dont provide any insulation whatsoever so be prepared for an expensive summer. As soon as the ac turns off the temp rises 20 degrees and instead of making changes to things that would actually improve the quality of living there, they just do cosmetic touch ups to the outside. They strip the paint off and repaint over rotted wood thats falling apart. Management only gets contacts you when they need something but if you need something from them or help, good luck because they wont return your calls, texts or emails and they leave the office before 5pm everyday so if u work u cant see them in person. When I moved in, the floors and shelves in the cabinets were filthy and I had to spend hours cleaning everything, and the cabinets in the carport had locks on them with the last tenants old stuff and it was extremely filthy as well. On top of that, it took 2 weeks before they even cut the locks off to get me access to the cabinets then we had to throw out all the owners junk. What’s even more ridiculous is when I moved out I cleaned pretty well and they still had the audacity to charge me a $225 cleaning fee. I NEED A REFUND. I didn’t receive any discount or credits when i had to clean everything upon moving in. What is also absurd is that on top of the overly priced rent, every. Single. Utility. Is charged separately. $50 for garbage a month?! I was a good tenant, causes no problems and always paid on time, but doesnt matter to them. They will not follow the guidelines of the contract but they will try to punish u if you dont. They let contractors/vendors onto your patio without a notice and the way their sliding glass doors are, u cant put a bar down in the track to keep it from opening. So anyone could easily break in. I always kept my windows and doors closed and somehow i would get caterpillars and roaches in my unit. ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE.
Stay away from this place at all cost. An antiquated 700sqft apartment is not worth $2k a month plus all the utilities.
Only good thing to say about this place is that the maintenance manager Racquel is really...
Read moreI toured this property a couple of weeks ago during a search for a potential new place here in the Coachella Valley. Raul was very friendly and helpfully and showed me several units. I appreciate the size and layout and the incredible amount of storage.
However, the kitchen cabinets in every unit I looked at were TERRIBLE. They appeared to be plywood, and the doors and drawers were crooked, hung open, and generally looked bad. I could tell they had been repainted numerous times (like, dozens!) and in some cases it was the layers of paint that were causing the doors to be held open a bit. That, plus old hardware. This can't be fixed by switching out the doors as the body of the cabinets are also thick with paint, clearly cheap, and they show tons of drips from the past few paintings.
I don't need a brand new kitchen in any apartment, but I'd like something that doesn't make the entire place look like a hovel. New cabinets, new countertops, and probably new fixtures as well. The appliances seemed okay, but I was more focused on all the crooked doors and drawers. These kitchens need to be gutted and redone. Paint hides a lot of sins, but that's only true for the first 2 or 3 coats.
I won't really consider Tahquitz Courts for this reason. Otherwise the property is nice with lots of trees. All the plantings are old and the trees and bushes need to be trimmed or replaced, but the green...
