I have been a Palmdale resident since 1985. I used to take my daughter here all the time. We both loved this Branch and lived fairly close. I was out of state for 7 years and when I came back to Palmdale in 2012, my first trip to the Library since my return was not enjoyable. I understand the lack of city funding but this is really sad. There are homeless and street people who are only flopping in there to get out of the weather. Or to sit. I stopped going after my fifth experience of having to sit next to an unwashed person who stank so bad I had to leave. I don't feel safe in there.The mothers don't control their kids. The computers break down. The womans' restroom is horrible.The Library should be a sweet escape to peaceful quiet space to enrich our minds. Please save the Palmdale...
Read moreNew management has definitely stepped in and done some cleanup. However, not the best place for academic study. Loud. Kids section echoes through the whole library. Thin walls allow all traffic sounds to bleed through. Computer lab & tables are more a point of 'cafe discussion' than for research & reading. No one walks around assisting gabby talkers to keep the noise down. A lot of meetings also seem to take place here in the open with various organizations spanning math & grammar tutors to job placement advisors. My little sister needs to go to library for school work. My mom works double shifts, including weekends. I'm not my little sisters legal guardian so I can't get a library card for her.
