This is the worst Alvin's Island I've ever been to I have spent close to $1,000 in this store since I've been here on vacation because they do have a large selection of name brand clothing surf clothing that we do like and every time I've come in here the people are very rude they speak in different languages so you do not understand them so you know they're talking about you their sign says they close at midnight but yet every time I go they have rushed us out the door as early as 11:15 11:20 tonight I went to return a couple T-shirts that did not fit properly I asked for help several times the lady was so beyond rude that if you didn't get in trouble for slapping people I would slap her and I'm not a violent or angry person I would suggest do not waste your time driving down to this Alvin's Island because the people are ridiculous here and we pay their salaries by going to their store and buying their product she went as far as to get her husband or whoever it might have been come out at 11:30 to let us know they were closing and locking up even though there's still people all in the store and he was letting everybody know this is absolutely ridiculous this establishment needs to find new management or whatever company owns Alvin's Island needs to come in here and check the people that are working here when we went to the cash register the girl got a bad attitude with this and started speaking in a different language and was talking bad and made a sigh sound because we were checking out I can't explain to you the disrespect and how bad things were at this place it's absolutely ridiculous I will never ever buy anything from Alvin's Island or waste my money again do not waste your time or money...
Read moreAs an attorney, I was dismayed to discover a potentially illegal pricing practice at Alvin’s that consumers need to be aware of. During a recent visit, I noticed items advertised as “half off,” but upon closer inspection, I found that the “half off” price of $19.99 was actually higher than the original price of $12.99 hidden beneath the new tag.
This practice appears to be a clear violation of the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act (FDUTPA), which prohibits unfair or deceptive acts in the conduct of any trade or commerce. According to FDUTPA, inflating the price of an item and then advertising it as discounted is deceptive if the original price was not a genuine, regular price offered to the public for a reasonable period.
Additionally, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) guidelines stipulate that the “original” price used to justify a discount must be the actual price at which the product was offered to the public for a reasonably substantial period before the sale. Alvin’s practice of misleading consumers with inflated discounts could also violate these federal regulations.
When I confronted Alvin’s about this deceptive practice, I was told, “There’s nothing we can do.” This response is unacceptable and disregards consumer protection laws designed to prevent such practices.
If you encounter similar deceptive pricing, I urge you to report it to the Florida Attorney General’s Office or the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Consumers deserve transparency and honesty in pricing, and businesses engaging in such deceptive practices should be held accountable. Always double-check the prices to ensure you’re getting a...
Read moreMy first experience at this store was great. Their clothes selection was the best compared to every other Alvin's island in town so I decided to go back and shop some more. After today I will spend my money at a different surf shop from now on. The first lady we asked a couple of questions to was rude, then we asked her for help bringing something down and she huffed and puffed and when we said thank you she said "yep." Then she told us at 11:39 PM that we had to go check out because they were closing. I told her we were almost done and we still had like 20 minutes and she said no we close our register every night at 11:45 so head to the front to check out. Then she went to go get her manager to tell us to leave. We were going to buy over $500 worth of stuff and decided to leave most of it and buy the bare minimum after that. Then the lady at the front desk started speaking in another language and was mad because we wanted to pay. I don't understand what type of establishment you are running but if you close at 11 45 then change your hours to 11 45 so that people know, don't disrespect paying customers. I'm in the restaurant industry people walk in 3 minutes before we close and we have to provide amazing customer until they leave even if that is an hour after close. So I don't understand the need to be disrespectful to paying repeat customers when the building isn't supposed to close it's doors until 12 AM. Will never be back to this Alvin's...
