I was in Pawtucket for about five weeks and needed a place to work out for the duration. By dumb luck, or maybe because the social media profiles were so well designed and effectively communicated what was being offered - I discovered American Muscle Corps. A quick call to the owner - which, BTW, was answered immediately even though it was 8 in the evening - confirmed that this gym had all the cardio and weight equipment I was looking for. And then some.
I'll start by observing that AMC has membership plans that are reasonable and affordable, not just for a short-termer like me but for someone who plans to be a member for months or years to come. So it was perfect for me, as it will be perfect for anyone who needs a fitness facility for the long term.
That's because AMC is a great gym, and I've been in more than a few over the years. For those interested in training with others or with a dedicated trainer, AMC provides that option. While I did not avail myself of those services, I witnessed first hand the high quality and expertise of the staff as they ran people of all shapes, sizes, and ages through what seemed to me the perfect regimens for each individual's needs.
There is a large cadre of trainers available here - I talked to many of them - all of them knowledgeable and pleasant. I saw the same group of young bucks being run through a rigorous boot camp type work out every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, while at the same time there were older or less fit folks being guided through their routines at exactly the right pace they needed. ALL of these folks were regulars. Meaning - they kept coming back consistently, day after day and week after week. This is a testament to how pleased they must be with their programs, which means the staff here must be doing something right.
In short - there is a good vibe to this gym. I was welcomed by Gail, the owner, within a minute of walking in the door for the first time, even though she was in the midst of a session with a client. Everyone is - without exception - friendly and laid back. The most remarkable aspect was watching how everyone knew to put their weights away where they belonged, or wiped down the machines and benches they'd been using when they were finished. This is a direct result of Gail and the trainer staff walking the floor constantly, encouraging people and teaching them proper gym etiquette.
To conclude - you can join one of the big, soulless, corporate gyms like the LA Fitness up the street, and you almost certainly will not see any of these good things happening. The big box gyms have plenty of equipment, no doubt, but that's as far as it goes. And for this sub-standard experience you'll probably be paying a lot more. So...if you're looking for a good gym in the Pawtucket/Providence area with a supportive environment that's professional, well-stocked with quality equipment, and staffed by people who know what they're doing - this is the place to...

Read moreBest gym I’ve ever belonged to!!!! As a plus size person, who is also queer, I have felt incredibly comfortable and welcomed since starting here in December 2023. The owner is warm and kind, all the trainers are supportive even if you’re not working with them directly and even members are always pumping each other up, or at the least smiling at each other as they pass by. I have been working the trainer Dustin for a few months now and I have been shocked at the progress I’ve been able to obtain with his firm and supportive guidance. He is really pushing me to achieve goals I wasn’t sure was possible for myself!! I’ve never found a gym I could be comfortable in and now that I have they have a member for life from me!! If you’re someone who has felt like gym environments aren’t for you, whether you’re queer, BIPOC, plus size or a fitness newbie you will find this gym welcomes you no...
