We were in Food Town shopping as a family as we often do. One of my younger children (as children love to do) picked up a toy from the toy section and was walking towards us at the other end of the aisle undoubtedly to beg us to buy it). A sales associate intercepted him on the way and told him to "put the toy back if he wasn't going to buy it." Because we raise our children to be respectful of adults he turned around and put it back. He was confused and frightened at being approached aggressively by a random adult when he was in route to his actual parent less than 10 feet away. I too was taken aback. Unless I am mistaken about how a food store works and have been for the last 40 years YOU PICK UP ITEMS AND PUT THEM IN YOUR CART UNTIL YOU REACH THE CHECK OUT. At no point does a sales associate approach anyone of any age and question them about what they have picked up while they are still in the aisles because purchases are made at the front. And then when I asked the associate why he had spoken to my child he started saying "no no it's fine if he has it if he is going to buy it." As though there is a time limit on how long you can carry an item through a grocery store while shopping. Now I can take this as my child being targeted because he is black, or I can take it as my child being targeted because he is a child and not an adult shopper. More than likely, I believe it was a combination of the two. But if Food town is going to start with the foolishness or refuse to train their associates on how to treat customers, I am happy to stop purchasing from them and recommend that others do as well for our peace of mind and safety. I'd suggest FT nip this in the bud quickly because Pearland has plenty of high(er) quality grocers in a reasonable radius for Food Town to find itself without a customer base at all. Get it...
Read moreFood Town is a really good place to shop. It's like a mix between Kroger and Aldi, somebody was using their brain when they had it built... They have fresh fruit, fresh desserts and pastries, pet supplies, human supplies, lol. It's also very convenient because of it's size and location. It's very clean and organized, there's no cluttered or destroyed aisles, the bathrooms are super clean, Food Town definitely deserves 5 star's and then some. Their staff is very friendly and courteous, if you need help with something like an item they may not have, they'll help you locate a place that does. They have handicap parking and entry as well. They do still require face masks so please take a mask with you when you go. Way to go Food Town, you guy's knocked it out...
Read moreDefinitely the place to go for fresh meat and good prices on pantry items. $80 goes a long way here. Produce items are smaller than other stores, but you can find hard to find items like fresh tumeric here. Toiletries soap, deodorant, paper towels are ridiculous and not a good selection. You don't want to buy those things here. Some chicken may be slightly more expensive, like i paid $9 for a pack of chicken wings that HEB had for $6, but you can really taste a difference. The FT wings were large, fresh and delicious. The HEB wings were scrawny, frozen, no flavor. I went back looking for more of those FT chicken wings. And when it comes to rice, ketchup, ground beef, roasts, gizzards, Mexican food items, and pork chops you want to go...
