Absolutely ridiculous enrollment process! I've worked at 2 separate UNIVERSITIES, in the Financial Aid departments AND the Admissions department, and I have NEVER seen such a convoluted process that PSC forces its students to jump through! And I'm not even the one wanting to attend the school! I'm trying to help my husband advocate for himself at this school just because I have "insider knowledge" about what all the school-speak means and to make sure he doesn't get screwed. Forget all that when you go here! Oh, and BTW-whatever you do, DON'T try to apply OR register for classes right before or during the Christmas season, because apparently the ENTIRE DAMN SCHOOL takes off for 2 weeks, and their only "solution" for students when you call is to "go online to their website!"....as if that's the fix for everything. Like I said, I'm trying to help my husband enroll, and we started his enrollment/FAFSA process back in December 2018. Fast forward to FEBRUARY 2019 and they are STILL giving him the run around with this Financial Aid package, enrolling, Admissions department, selecting a program of study, and now he has missed TWO start dates because another of their answers to you is to "check your PirateMail"......(because everyone has access to a DESKTOP computer 24/7.....because if you try to use your smartphone, it's a joke.....) Used to really like this school back when it was "Pensacola Junior College". They seemed to know their place in the big scheme of things back then. Ever since they changed their name to "Pensacola State College"....IDK if the name went to everyone's head or what, but this place has gone down a hole that more and more people are not wanting to follow! DON'T KNOW WHAT YOUR PROBLEMS ARE, PSC, BUT YOU BETTER GET IT TOGETHER! In a nutshell: this place sucks. The Admissions process sucks. The Financial Aid process sucks. The Advisors suck. And from what I can see of the ONE class my husband took 2 years ago, the Faculty also SUCK. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. SERIOUSLY. 2 stars ONLY because their Library is pretty awesome....
Read moreI was reminded to check if my previous review, left with a university account that I no longer have access to, had been deleted, and sure enough it had been. I should have known better than to leave it with a university account, but hindsight, etc. Small library with very unimpressive variety of books. Connecting to WiFi is a trial. Phone number and email are demanded every time. WiFi frequently disconnects. Furthermore, as a holdover of the outrageous, xenophobic, and anti-intellectual anti-Russian backlash that followed Russia's invasion of Ukrainian, Russian sites such as search engines, email providers, and news sites (Russia Today) are blocked. The library is also hopelessly committed to communicating hours as inefficiently as possible, with the site having a laugh of a Dreamweaver table depicting zero special hours that likely hasn't been updated since Dreamweaver was a thing that existed, and with special hours only being communicated via paper taped to the door. Nice to know that American colleges and universities are, indeed, jokes, and that we Americans, collectively, are The Joke. Also, the librarians have no issue with people talking, or even shrieking like animals, upstairs in the quiet area. People have even played music with no one stepping in. Yet if you do something utterly unforgivable like lay your head down on a desk to take a nap or, God forbid, accidentally doze off sitting upright in your chair, a librarian will rush upstairs to threaten to kick you out, with hysterical immediacy. Immediately. Guaranteed. Please understand that you are being monitored directly 24/7 by the official library creep if you step...
Read moreIt's hard to believe now, but I enrolled at Pensacola State College forty years ago this fall when it was still known as Pensacola Junior College. I was almost 24 years old at the time and had put off going to college for several years for a variety of reasons. Despite some trepidation, I surprised myself with a newfound ability to learn and better grades than I had ever expected. Maybe it was maturity or maybe it was because I was paying for it myself. Undoubtedly, it was also the outstanding staff, instructors and professors that encouraged me in my quest.
Attending PJC/PSC inspired me to continue with my higher education and after earning my A.A. degree, I transfered to Florida State University and earned my B.S. in Criminology. After graduation from FSU, I eventually landed a job in federal law enforcement where I was blessed with a very successful 27 year career. My point to all of this rambling and horn-tooting is that starting my higher education at PJC/PSC changed my life for the better and gave me the confidence boost that I needed at that time. Had it not been for the outstanding education and experience I had at PJC/PSC my life would have been decidedly different. A much belated thank you to everyone there that contributed to...
