Mr. Shawarma was a FABULOUS, although unplanned, stop on our cross country drive that ended up being the best part of our day! It’s not easy to feed a family with different dietary needs while on the road - one picky carnivore, one dieting carnivore and a vegetarian, but Mr. Shawarma delivered BIG! They also offer halal meat, alcoholic beverages, contact-free pick up, delivery and catering.
Order: Do yourself a favor and order the Garlic Creme sauce! We did everything but lick the container, lol. I ordered the vegetarian Falafel wrap served on the most delicious warm pita I’ve ever eaten! My husband ordered the Chicken Shawarma Power Bowl served with rice (or on salad upon request), Chicken Shawarma, Feta cheese, Chickpea Hummus and thin shaved onion slices. The kid ordered the Lamb Gyro served on pita bread with Lamb, Tzatziki sauce, Romain lettuce shreds and the Tomato and shaved Onion on the side. The presentation was simple, the prices and portion sizes were fair and the food was magnificent!
Pros: Mr. Shawarma has the sweetest staff… very thoughtful to customers. Check out the Family and Friends picture wall hanging in the hallway. The dining area is a bit on the smaller side, but has everything you’d need to enjoy a great meal. There’s a few tables, a cooler offering specialty drinks and even high chairs for the littles. There’s a small single person bathroom at the end of a long hallway that was clean and well kept. Don’t let the strip mall location or tired decor in this little hole in the wall restaurant put you off. When the line is out the door, you know you’ve stumbled upon something special! They also cater for family get-togethers or parties. We can’t wait to go back soon.
Cons: Check the hours of operation before you go as they open a bit late at 11:00am and close early by 8:00pm. Consider calling ahead for your order to avoid long wait times. During our 45 min dinner, we saw many people lining up to order takeout food as well as many driver’s picking up meals...
Read moreEdit: Ok, I gotta give this place a break because everything is expensive everywhere and this is a specialty restaurant so things are expensive. But I still think they should just do a combo to make it easier and a bit cheaper. The menu is basically ala carte and everything adds up quick to $16-18 per plate.
Mr. Shawarma is my favorite Mediterranean restaurant, but ...
The pricing keeps moving and I don't know to expect to pay and the price is getting more and more everytime I come.
The menu is misleading because there is pricing for a wrap and pricing for a bowl but not a "plate". So historically when I ordered a plate, I would get my entree, salad, a side of humus, pita bread, garlic sauce, and a drink for about $12. But that was 2 years ago before the pandemic. Now under new ownership, it went to "no plate pricing" on the menu, but you get a side, pita bread, and garlic sauce. No drink or side of humus or baba ganoush. Now, today, I come back for a "plate" and I get charged $11.99 for my entree (Chicken Syriana) and a side salad. Everything else is charged: an extra dollar for a side, 50 cents for for pita bread and 50 cents for garlic sauce, and a $2.50 a drink. (I got two extra pita and garlic sauce in this instance because both my wife and I wanted pita and garlic). But the bill was about $19. I know the pandemic is hitting places hard and I support local businesses as much as possible, but a $7 hike for basically the same thing is just too much.
The owner should be more consistent with pricing and add menu items on the menu. And do a combo, everything is now a la carte. I want to talk to the owner but she doesn't speak english, and we really like her, but if anyone reads this comment about the menu, please relay this...
Read moreBeen here twice. Both times the food was only average. I would have expected a place with "shawarma" in its name to serve a superlative version of the sandwich. But they don't. Both times I had the shawarma it was dry. The flavor itself was okay, but it definitely could have used a sauce of some kind. I also think that they could do much better with the variety of offerings on their menu. For one thing, as of this writing the only meat they offer for the shawarma is chicken. I would love to see beef and/or lamb as well. Also, they earn a low grade from me for not offering a nice variety of middle eastern salads and sides. They do have taboulah (which I have not tried, so I can't speak to that) and hummus, but even their hummus is only average. To make matters worse, they serve french fries. Don't get me wrong, fries are tasty, but they don't belong in a restaurant that bills itself as a source of authentic middle eastern foods. Bottom line for me: until Mr. Shawarma really ups their game, I won't...
