I have walked these trails for years. The boardwalk can be very slippery after rain. I have seen an very old adult rattle snake on the path once on the Weleetka side and a nest of baby rattlesnakes in the grass in the Whitetail side, so always be vigilant especially if you have children who like to run in the grass. I also had a few bad experiences too. Walked up on two teenage boys right after the boardwalk taking a poop on the concrete. Another instance, during national fair season, I had a man following me. I turned early in the middle of the trail to test my theory and he immediately turned too. I had my ex husband (husband at the time) in my AirPod and he made sure I made it back to the car without incident. The man following me had a Florida tag, so led me to believe he might have been traveling with the fair. For months I didn’t feel safe to go alone down there, but have since returned. There are beautiful flowers during different seasons and sometimes the scent from the flora in the Weleeka side is so amazing. Plenty of parking. Grassy area to lay in. I have also taken plenty of photos of my daughter under the grungy bridge and around the park in...
Read moreWe had a fun day here with a few extra friends yesterday. The trails were nice, clean and shaded. Lots to explore with the kids. Before our friends got there we walked about half way down the longer trail before turning around to meet them. We'll have to go back and finish that side soon. We went down the shorter trail to the right with them and it was beautiful. We spotted so many things to explore with the kids. We found a turtle nest but something ate all of the eggs. A first for my kids to see but the circle of life made my little girl sad. She loved all of the moss and the velvet like mushrooms she found. They saw lots of new things today and we got to talk about it on the way home. I'd recommend it for a fairly quick nature adventure with little kids. The trail was just the right length for our two and they lived rolling down the hill at the entrance of...
Read moreThis is the new gem of Perry, GA. I grew up in Perry and was always warned to stay away from the creek as a child. So, to take this walk was momentous for me as I've always loved the woods and the water. We walked the short Weleetka Trail, then Whitetail Trail. The total walk amounted to almost 2.5 miles. Beautiful scenery from beginning to end. You can see equipment whereas they are still doing modifications and expanding the view and experience. And the addition of the benches puts this in the top class of other riverwalks and nature trails that I've been on/in. This will definitely be a popular spot as the...
