Rink itself was cool. Especially the people behind the counter. The skating director however is a different story. I am a senior level skater from Sharks Ice. I went there one day with my mom to video tape some skating elements on a public session. The director approached me to ask if she could hire me as a coach for skating school. But instead, she misled me while disrespecting my qualifications. After six weeks, and after getting all the necessary paperwork and paying the fees(took at least a week), Sultana tells me I have to volunteer. She hired a lower level skater in my place who had no actual coaching experience (started skating few years ago). Then she took me out of the show knowing I was preparing to perform. This was 2 months before my Mom was diagnosed with Cancer. I realized years later that this is just a reflection of Philadelphia as a whole. My replacement was unqualified and could only do single jumps. Moreover, they ended up leaving before the show as their University classes ended.
9 months later, around the time my Mom passed, a young woman saw me training and asked if I could give her nieces private lessons. I had paid for insurance to coach until the next year as this was a requirement upon getting hired. Still, someone let Sultana know and they brought it up at their next board meeting. The next time I went to the rink I was told "you can't coach here because you don't have the proper insurance." I knew it was a lie but I was sick and tired of life by this point.
I'm not exactly sure why Sultana hired me to begin with. I was just there to practice. I did not ask for her to help me when she approached me after a spin. I even went to rinks in New Jersey where no one knew me but alas, these coaches apparently “knew who I was” due to her bad mouthing of me. That is why the owner’s response to this bares no validity. I have seen pettiness at rinks before, but never like this. Everything was backwards here. She didn't like it that I had my own technique of coaching and wanted me to conform to hers; even though her students never improved. When I approached her about this respectfully (minus the lack of her student improvement), she resorted to screaming at me in front of other skaters. Such an unprofessional and toxic environment. I will never go back to...
Read moreClean, well stocked, staff is helpful and cordial. I am not thrilled with the selections but I enjoy the veggies and this weeks home products. Every week meat and fish selections change; I love the uncured turkey bacon, lemons reasonable; don't buy the navel oranges; ground coffee. However, if you don't mind off brand goods it can be a great place to buy. I do plan to continue to shop...
