Mike & Matt's Italian Market — Attraction in Philadelphia

I've been on an infinite mission to find the best hoagie in Philly. One factor is who is making it, and who is handing it to me.

I cannot describe a more Philly experience than what I experienced at Mike & Matt's.

The front door was covered up with cardboard, but there was a sign that said "C'mon in were open!". I ordered an Italian. They gave me an eye roll for offering an Italian because it was too much meat. But I told them it's my baseline for trying every hoagie in Philly.

We broke balls, had a laugh, but most importantly, I walked down Passayunk to a bench in a park next to a bunch of hungover married couples scarfing down brunch they waited an hour for, and I destroyed an old fashioned Italian with everything on it and hot peppers and it was nothing short of perfection.

Matt and Mike’s Italian Market is the best place in South Philly! I love their Italian Specialty Hoagies on Sarcone’s Bread! I’ve been coming here since I was a child, picking up groceries with my grandmother. Now, I take my child there. My grandmother, Cathy, has been a loyal customer since the beginning. Matt and Mike have grown as a family and witnessed generations grow.

I see some reviews on here about “scams” or people’s “card number” being used, but these guys are real honest and solid people. The absolute BEST Hoagies for my money! Mike and Matt have the kind of store that makes my South Philly neighborhood special. Go there for the great food but also for the fun conversation. Once I discovered these guys, they have become part of my pre-game Phillies ritual. I can't imagine sitting in the stands without one of their sandwiches to fortify me through nine innings.
