We visited the Louisiana Maneuvers & Military Museum on a weekday in June, 2023. We arrived late in the day as we were traveling the country and I wanted to stop at the museum. Thankfully we were able to arrive in time. We had a walk around outside, but time was short, so we didn't spend too much time. There are restrooms in one of the adjacent buildings to the main museum. (near the Huey) We then went inside and met Richard Moran who is a curator at the museum. There was only an hour left before closing, but Richard generously offered to spend that hour giving us a tour. We walked around and listened to a lot of things. Some I knew, some I didn't. And that's why a tour with a knowledgeable guide is so much better to me. If you can actually learn things that you might not have on your own, how can that not be better. Even the wife who normally is less than thrilled with some of my interests, enjoyed the tour. No she probably didn't understand some of the things that Richard and I spoke about, but I think she understood enough of the conversation that she could feel like a part instead of a tag a long. We made it through the whole museum in that hour. Maybe we went quick and might have not covered some things as thorough as one might with more time. But I feel it was excellent. If we missed something, I probably would not know anyway. I just appreciate that Richard would spend his time with us to the extent that he did. We thanked him and we all went on our way. For me it was just a great afternoon. I don't think the wife even minded all that much. They do not charge an entrance fee to enter the museum. But they do have a donation box to help offset the costs of running the museum. I really enjoyed my time there. If you have an interest in military and the past. You would probably enjoy this...
Read moreMy son and I visited the museum today for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The curator on staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. There were options of either a guided tour with the curator, or a self-guided walk through. We were shorter on time so I chose the self-guided. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and quantity of items in this museum. It has a lot of focus on the Louisiana maneuvers during the two World Wars, which was something that I wasn’t very familiar with. Particularly the involvement that central Louisiana played during WWII. There are also several old vehicles on display outside of the museum. Definitely worth...
Read moreLoved this museum! There was a new exhibit going up when myself and a friend arrived, and the man putting it together was extremely knowledgable. He took us through the permanent collection and we got an amazing history lesson. There are awesome models, uniforms, flags, documents, and more. And admission is FREE! If you're into US history, or military history then this is the place for you! This is located in an active military post, so civilians like myself cannot walk around unattended, so if there is not one available to tend to the museum, then it is not open. So just be aware of hours, and any other scheduling changes...
