Mikado Sushi & Steak House — Restaurant in Pineville

Update: Went for an early dinner and it was just nasty. The only fairly decent thing was the server...he was kind and attentive. None of us finished our food and we vowed not to go back until some major changes are done. I understand that Cenla lacks in good dining BUT I'll just opt to drive out of town to eat sushi from now on. I won't waste my $40+ here. Everything we ordered (which was 5 different rolls) had a very off putting, foul like taste. I left with my tummy on the rumble...eeek

The sushi is not like rock your world fantastic. That seems to be the trend for all Central Louisiana restaurants. It is not trash can worthy either. Maybe 1 step above the grocery store but no where in the same universe as stuff in California or NYC. Anyway, the service is fabulous. Our server was Joe, he was very attentive without being around too much for comfort. He seems to enjoy his job and makes you feel like you're not a burden to serve. He needs a raise! The food is decent and service is great. Let's get to the issue I have...cleaning and up keep! Some of the seating is torn making for a real dingy, forgotten appearance. AND someone PLEASE dust! Please! There enough dust on top of picture frames, air vents, ceiling tiles, TVs, lighting, decor to make a nice, fuzzy king sized blanket....

My usual sushi place in Alexandria closed early so we went to explore Pineville. We stopped by Mikado since they were one of the few non-fast food places still open after 9pm on a weeknight. Mikado closes at 9:30pm, but they were enthusiastically willing to seat us when we came in at 9pm. They could have turned us away, but they sat us down and still provided great service.

I took away a star because the #74. Sushi Regular was very lackluster and not worth $17. At least it did not smell or give off a fishy taste. For a menu full of sushi options, I would expect the basic fish pieces to taste better. This is definitely not the "best" place for nigiri in cenla. Maybe people like the sushi ROLLS since everything gets covered in sauces... I don't know, just a guess from the other reviews. The sesame chicken was good, though! It came with plenty of chicken and broccoli along with a bowl of rice. I would come back to try the other entree dishes.

At the end of the night, the waiter gave us our check and a couple slices of strawberry cake to enjoy.

Overall, superb service. A polite and very cool waiter. I wouldn't get the sushi (the saucy rolls seem to be decent), but I would come back to try the other asian fusion or...

The quality of the food at Mikado Sushi & Steak House in Pineville is good. I waited until I had experienced more of their menu before I wrote this review. I also wanted to see if my first couple of visits were anomalies, or if the lack of greetings with a smile were just for me, or the same for other customers I observed. The cleanliness, atmosphere and service are okay. Everything I've ordered has been fairly consistent. The fried crab appetizer doesn't appear to be local blue crab, but it is interesting enough for me to have ordered a few times. Some items may be a bit on the expensive side. There are wide varieties of sushi, along with Japanese, and Asian dishes, including assorted fried rice combinations and daily lunch specials. I keep going back, so they are obviously doing...
