My boyfriend and I visited The Witches Dungeon tonight at 6:30pm, and from the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth and enthusiasm by the owner, Cortlandt Hull - who also personally guided our tour. He shared an incredible amount of detail about each wax figure, mask, and artifact, often encouraging us to take a closer look at elements we might have missed. Despite our later appointment time, Mr. Hull made sure we received the full experience. He even took photos of us, thoughtfully directing poses and angles to help us get the best shots. Mr. Hull’s passion and deep-rooted ties to old Hollywood make the tour even richer. He has a remarkable breadth of connections within the classic movie industry - including a friendship with Mark Hamill - and hearing his firsthand stories brings the history to life in a way you won’t find anywhere else. Not only is he a historian, but he is also the artist behind many of the wax displays themselves. He even created “Zenobia the Gypsy,” the namesake figure of the museum. The museum is a treasure trove of classic horror history, featuring figures, masks, and memorabilia from the early 1900s through the late ’80s and ’90s. Some of the standout icons represented include Lon Chaney, Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, and Vincent Price. As a total theater nerd, I especially loved the Phantom of the Opera displays - they were beautifully crafted and a true highlight for me. Even though my boyfriend and I are in our early 20s, we recognized many of the films represented, and for those we weren’t familiar with, Mr. Hull’s vivid storytelling helped bring them to life. We left with a whole list of classic horrors we’re excited to watch together. Thank you, Mr. Hull, for such a wholesome, entertaining, and memorable experience. We can’t wait to return with our parents and friends so they can enjoy this...
Read moreThe review would have a higher rating if not for the attitude of the owner. We with my autistic daughter and her service dog, we called ahead to make sure it was OK to bring the Service dog in and they said as long as it doesn’t mess everywhere. Which is fine but when we got there, we were told how expensive everything is it’s very expensive. It’s priceless. These can’t be replaced, etc. numerous times with an attitude! As we are watching a presentation, it felt like the owner needed us to pay attention to everything that was going on step-by-step instead of letting us enjoy the museum and listen in the background and focus on what we were truly interested in. He must’ve told my autistic daughter at least 10 times she needs to listen and pay attention and go along with the exhibit, she had no interest in hearing the history, but like to see the memorabilia. The lady who finished the tour was very understanding in phenomenal, but overall, I don’t care who you know is the way you treat people this is a one and done experience. If you think people are so bad that they’re gonna destroy everything that you’ve collected and live for then don’t have a museum and don’t open it to the public. We were very respectful didn’t go near. Didn’t try to touch shut the flash off when he asked for no flash photography and still got a attitude like we were peasants and he...
