Great beach! It takes about 90 minutes from Bethlehem. We pack a cooler and some snacks for our full day on the beach. We then take everything back to the car around 6pm and go for dinner. ONE THING I CAN TELL YOU THAT I FOUND OUT THIS YEAR IS DO NOT PAY FOR YOUR PARKING IN THE GARAGE UNTIL YOU ARE READY TO LEAVE. After you pay you only have 45min to leave garage. I did not know that and thought I would pay before we went to eat just to save time and I it wouldn't let me out. I did find someone working who was very helpful explained what happened and let us out. So I thought I would share that to others who also might not know
Some tips - garage parking is best. You have a little longer walk than parking at meters but the car stays cool and its 15.00 for al day parking. It was 10.00 last year so it did go up but still a good deal.
drop off - you can not drop anyone off with chairs, coolers etc. by the beach/boards. You will get yelled at and asked to move! Its a busy area with foot traffic and cars and if people keep stopping to drop off others no traffic will ever move there!! So I understand why they do it this way. They have police/security on bikes and walking to prevent people from stopping.
Laird St beach area is where I usually go and there is a bathroom near that beach area that is easily accessible. They do not have showers or changing rooms that I am aware of. There is an outside shower as you get off/on the beach.
cost is 5.00 to get on the beach for the day and the season pass is very affordable if you know you will get there 8-9 times or more. We do take small coolers with drinks. I have seen them look in the larger coolers. Not sure if it was glass they were looking for or alcohol.
great places around this area to eat. We usually go for dinner before we leave and most times we have done this there was an outside band playing. Its a very relaxing atmosphere. You can find finer dining as well as very affordable dining.
as for the crowds - I would say the majority is college age but I have noticed many family groups as well as older people. I am 56 and feel comfortable there, I think the beach is very diverse and the mix of ages are fine for anyone who wants to...
Read moreSo we ordered day passes for 4 people yesterday at 5 am because they ran out the night before. My boyfriend and I got our badges from the stand around 1045 am and the lady said the other two in our party could walk to the stand (whenever they came) and we could bring them their badges. So when our friends got there around 1230, the beach was apparently closed. Two male staff members standing by the entrance (not at the badge stand) said they weren’t allowed on the beach. I tried to explain to them that I asked previously if we would have a problem and the lady told us no and to just check them in and bring their badges. They did not care what we had to say and they kept cutting us off as we were speaking. They literally shrugged their shoulders and said they didn’t care what we were saying because our friends weren’t getting on the beach. The worst part was they were so rude that when I asked for the manager or supervisor they repeatedly said they were not going to get them. They told us we could move all of our things (already on the beach) miles down the beach or go home, but that they were not going to get a manager for us to speak too. They argued with us for a while until I went to another stand and explained the situation who then sent me to the lady I spoke to in the morning. She then got the supervisor, thankfully, and he checked the badges and allowed our friends to come on the beach. He apologized for the younger men and said he would speak to them. I have never encountered anyone more rude then those two who believed they had some sort of special authority to not respect their customers wishes and treat them with extreme disrespect. I do not plan to go back to that beach anymore and I would not recommend it to anyone as the staff is not professional, except some of the...
Read moreA group of friends and I were looking to go to the beach in NJ and none of us had ever gone to the beach anywhere in NJ before. I asked a local, who used to live in Asbury Park and she recommended Long Branch Beach.
Entrance frees are $7 for weekends at the gate or $8.56 if you buy them in the app in advance. They open up the day passes in the app at 8:30am every morning. I was able to pre-buy the passes with zero issues. When you check-in at the gate, they give you a badge to keep with you in case you leave and come back.
There is $10 public parking lots, but we opted to park in a lot that's closer to the beach for $20. $20 for all day parking (we were parked from 10am to 5pm) is a pretty good deal.
We opted to set up near the Pier Village area, so we would have access to food. There are public bathrooms along the beach and they were kept pretty clean throughout the day (I used it 3x throughout the day). Life guards are posted along the beach and there are also rental spots if you want umbrellas or chairs. They do close on cloudy days, so be mindful of that. I followed them on Instagram and we were able to bring our own stuff since they were closed.
Another plus: they allow beach tents! I know some NJ beaches so not allow tents, so I'm very happy that they allow it here.
All in all, I had a great time. For roughly $7.50 a person, it was a great activity. Beach was clean and we had...
