I love books and love taking my kids to the library but we have had some negative experiences here. I took my son with me to the library today to print a couple things off in the computer room, which took all of five minutes, and the lady who was working at the desk in the computer room was very rude to me and my son. My son had ADHD and has a hard time following social norms/rules. He is only four and I try my best but he has a lot of energy. When we got to the computer room, my son immediately went and sat in a chair at a computer and I thought it would be fine because I would be using that computer to print what I needed. Apparently that was not the case because the only thing the employee said to me was "umm, no. He's too young to be on the computers." Duh, I didn't bring my toddler so he could play on the computers?? Before she took my card, I had to walk the 15 feet to get my son, bring him to the desk with me, and then walk back to the same computer where he sat in my lap. The lady said nothing else to me while scanning my library card or giving it back, and when I paid for the pages I printed, I had asked her if I could put the change on my account and she acted like it was a stupid question. Then she huffed when my son touched a sign and overall just made us feel unwelcome as library patrons. Children with ADHD and other types of neurodivergence or disabilities deserve to have access to libraries too. If I need to print something again, I will turn around and leave if she's the one working. She could take notes from...
Read moreGreat Wi-Fi and lots of utilities but one MAJOR flaw. You cannot use any outlets to charge anything period. How pathetic can you be to deny people public power? The main person at the help desk told me there was an outlet outside on the street on a pole. It's 28 degrees outside, 10 if you include wind chill. Disgraceful! The only way to charge any device is to use one of their computer stations but that's a 2 hour limit. I'm walking across the US and I've been to hundreds of libraries, I'm talking towns with less than 200 people and an annual budget of less than 6k would let me charge my phone. Pathetic, absolutely pathetic, that a library in a city this size doesn't allow public use of power. The person who thought that would be a good idea should be ashamed of themselves. Other than that it's a very...
Read moreWas so excited to visit this library when we moved to town in 2018. However, the workers were so rude. I am used to Tulsa libraries where kids are welcomed and encouraged to play and explore. Multiple workers were rude, and not kind to my nuerodovergent kiddo. They had awful customer service. I was so disappointed to experience this with such a cool library.
*UPDATE (06/2024): Since writing my previous post, the library has done a great job of becoming more family friendly. I am thankful for their efforts since covid and I hope they will continue to become more family friendly, and more open to...
