Read moreBought several planes, a flight simulator, a large quad copter, and several smaller quad copters (Spider 3d, and Blade Induction) from this store. For the most part I'm happy with the associates' knowledge, understanding, and helpfulness. I was told recently, however, that the manager is being pressured to get rid of the HobbyZone, eflite, and basically all brands that are not Ares as it is their store brand and they see more of a profit from selling this brand. This stretches from planes to quad copter, and I believe even their RC boats and possibly the RC cars. These Ares models have RC receivers built into their boards which do not support any larger transmitters. So my Spectrum transmitters that I bought from HobbyTown USA will be useless with them. Instead of being able to use one of my transmitters, I'm limited to paying more for a Ready To Fly model that comes with a very cheap, flimsy looking and feeling transmitter that won't work with any other models. This means that every time I buy a new model, I'll have to get an RTF version with yet another (cheap) transmitter. I've visited a few times now looking for a small Sport Cub S, an ultra micro Corsair, and two other planes. If they had these models, I'd have spent between $500 and $800 in their shop in the last two months (I wasn't certain if I wanted the fourth plane, but definitely would have bought the other three). Instead, I drove over an hour to Debbie's RC world where I bought the Corsair and a $300 glider that I was looking for, and I have to get my Sort Cub S on Amazon. The associate said they could order the Sport Cub S in for me, and it would only take about 5-7 days for it to arrive but shipping would be free, which was appreciated. But I explained that I have Amazon Prime and that it is available on there for free 2 day delivery directly to my home. I'll still occasionally visit. I may shop there if I need something quickly and they have it in stock. But if the manager is going to choose to not keep popular brands (not just Ares) and models in stock (especially a very good, very affordable, and REDICULOUSLY popular trainer like the Sport Cub S), then they will lose way more on lost customers whom are not willing to wait longer just to get it locally than they are getting with the increased profit margin on the, admittedly fragile (an associate's words) and poorly designed, Ares counterparts.
I put two stars because it doesn't make much difference how nice, helpful, and knowledgeable your staff is if you simply don't readily carry what I want to buy. The Ares stuff may sell. Especially to the casual passerby. But that kind of plan isn't going to pull in any of the hobbyists or local fliers.
A wise man once said, "It's not what you like, it's the consumer.". Stop limiting the selection to snakes and sparklers and I might come back and buy some Roman candles, snicker doos, and snicker don'ts (with or without the...
Read moreMy 9 year old son saved his money for months to afford the Helion Animus RC, he finally went and got it. It broke twice in two weeks. When he purchased it he was told it could go in grass and sand without any issues. The second time it broke he took there and a man named John, a guy with a pony tail told him that he should not have driven it in the grass, and would have to pay for the repair. This devastated my son, and he asked the man why his car kept breaking and why he had to pay for it if it was under warranty. John told my son that Hobbytown makes money by selling him cheap junk that breaks so that he could pay for the repairs. This of course made my son cry right there in the store, and he is now afraid of going in there. This claim was verified, my wife was there and another employee even said that sound like something that would have been said. They fixed it for free after I went in there and spoke with a shift manager, and I asked to speak with the owner or store manager, I wanted a full refund since they claim they sell junk. I was told that the employee, who still works there, would be delt with. The situation has never been resolved. The owner and manager has never contacted me. They are dishonest, and they really do sell things that break. Save your money, do not shop there, do not allow your children to be made a fool of and made to cry. AVOID AVOID AVOID!!! This store should be shut down...
