The best location in NE Portland for watching sunsets, taking in panoramic views of the city, gazing at stars (and other astronomical events, even despite the light pollution), and watching planes take off and land at nearby PDX. On a clear day, Mt. Hood, Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Adams can be seen by those with good eyesight. An old, decommissioned aviation beacon still blinks away at all hours of the day and night like a lighthouse, and the rustic lanterns around the perimeter make the park feel as if it were time-shifted from an earlier era.

If you come here during clear skies, you could actually see Mt St Helens, Mt Hood, Mt Baker etc. You can also see the Columbia river flow through the city coming in from Washington. Seems to be well maintained too. Decent amount of parking here but checking the timings for those. You generally cannot park late at night. Plenty of parking along the road, near the park entrance. Just a short walk up hill to the top. You can see downtown Portland one direction, Vancouver another, and 1-84 coming in from the Gorge.
