This is a nice spot for hikes of varying lengths, without leaving the city. There are many trails - we walked a couple of miles, on 3 different paths, and were pleasantly surprised by the gentle grade, though virtually all of our route was along hillsides overlooking steep ravines. The trails were somewhat narrow for Covid times. Fortunately, almost everyone else that we encountered were wearing masks. The trails had a number of exposed roots and medium sized rocks, making for good traction, but also potential for twisted ankles. The feeling of wooded isolation is remarkable, considering how close this park is to downtown. There are constantly varying levels of sunlight reaching down into the ravines, making for entertaining viewing. Some of the trails have been renamed, so if you've done any route planning online, the names on the trail markers may be different. One example is that the former Shelter Loop Trail is now called the Shadyside Trail. Look for trail maps at the shelter near the surprisingly small parking lot. We encountered one section of trail that had water running across, draining into a gully that ran alongside, although there has been no rain in the area for several days. So, be sure to wear...
Read moreI am in town from Texas for work and wanted to hit up some trails around Tigard. There were so many on Google but I'm so glad I settled on these. The walk was so peaceful and there wasn't many people at all when I went. There were so many trees I forgot I was near the city. It smelled so good like the trees filtered out the city smell. I stopped several times to take it all in and the longer I stayed still, the more the forest came alive around me. I could hear the birds and the trees creaking in the wind, it was beautiful. I highly recommend to anyone trying to get a break from society. I went around 5 and walked around until 7, at this time the sun was coming through the trees, it was amazing. I am definitely going to try to come back in the fall, I can't imagine what the colors...
Read moreA great hike for you and your pup!! Definitely very steep & narrow! Most of the time the trail is a one person at a time. I went on a hike today and encountered the friendliest people there! And such lovely dogs(none which were aggressive.) As we are in a time of a pandemic it was nice to see most people complying with the mandatory mask regulation! And if they didn’t have it on as soon as they saw us they would put it on(which is just fine if you ask me!) it’s definitely a good hike to do even if it’s slightly raining but if it was raining a lot previously I don’t recommend going as it could be quite dangerous with the amount of mud and how steep this hike truly is. I think the only cons of this hike was that it is a little bit confusing to get to the trails and parking...
