Overlook Park, perched on the bluffs of North Portland, offers a compelling blend of panoramic city views, ample recreational opportunities, and a significant connection to Portland's urban fabric. Acquired by the city in 1930, this roughly 11-acre park has long been a neighborhood cornerstone, and its enduring popularity is easy to understand.

The star attraction of Overlook Park is undoubtedly its vistas. From its elevated position, visitors are treated to breathtaking views of downtown Portland's skyline, the majestic Willamette River, and often, the distant shimmer of the Cascade Mountains on a clear day. This makes it a prime spot for photographers, sunset watchers, or anyone simply looking to enjoy a quintessential Portland panorama. The presence of the MAX light rail station right at the park's edge further enhances its accessibility, making it a convenient escape from the urban bustle without having to venture far.

Beyond the views, Overlook Park is a hub of activity. It boasts multiple sports fields for baseball, softball, and soccer, which are frequently alive with games and practices. Basketball and volleyball courts add to the athletic offerings, catering to a diverse range of recreational pursuits. For families, the well-equipped playground provides a lively space for children to expend energy. Dog owners also appreciate the designated off-leash area, allowing their canine companions to socialize and play freely.

Adding to its appeal is the historical shelter and comfort station, a testament to New Deal-era Works Progress Administration projects of the 1930s. These structures not only provide practical amenities but also lend a touch of historical charm to the park, grounding it in the city's past. More recently, the park has embraced modern environmental initiatives with the creation of a "nature patch" – a designated area featuring native plants designed to support local pollinators and manage stormwater. This blend of historic preservation and ecological consciousness highlights Portland's commitment to both its heritage and its future.

While Overlook Park is generally a vibrant and well-used space, like many urban parks, it experiences the ebb and flow of city life. Despite this, its expansive green spaces, diverse recreational offerings, and iconic views solidify its position as a vital and beloved asset for the Overlook neighborhood and the wider Portland community. It's a park that truly offers something for everyone, whether you're seeking active recreation, a peaceful retreat, or simply a stunning backdrop...

Its big, clean and spacious with some great views overlooking Portland (hence the name, OVERLOOK ... clever..? Or planned ...hmmm)

Not too much of a homeless overrun here which was GREAT to see. No disrespect to those genuinely down on their luck; but I can't be the only one in the city sick to death of broken glass, empty liquor bottles, fast food wrappers, feces, urine, and used needles decorating public parks where kids play and dogs run. Down on your luck is one thing. Being a disrespectful asshat that treats public spaces like a crack house is another. If you're reading this and you're one of those? You're the reason Portland is becoming a rat infested garbage pit. Leave.

Finding beautiful parks that are still in good shape in this city is pretty awesome.

There's a playground for the littles and a giant soccer field just adjacent to the park. Covered picnic area and a few tables scattered about. Great for an afternoon picnic or casual stroll with your canine companions.

Night views are pretty incredible here. If you've never seen Portland at night from this park, do yourself a favor. Take a late night walk (ladies, keep a tazer, mace, or a small handgun handy... it IS Portland ...) and check out the way the city lights reflect like a million diamonds...

This is where Kaiser Permanente Interstate offices are located. It is very conveniently accessed by Max rail. Take yellow line /Expo center and get off at stop Overlook Park. There is an ER, Urgent care and various other departments and lab services. Pharmacy is very efficient and fast and friendly service. Use pharmacy entrance between East and West buildings to get direct access to the pharmacy. Vitamins and over the counter meds are few dollars cheaper than store prices. Urgent care here is always crowded and I have not had good experience. ER is way better and more effective. Recommended to call before as many services are on the East building and those with walking difficulties could be challenged. Cafeteria (on the Ground floor) serves quite nice soups and breakfast and lunch items. Reasonably priced and quite tasty food. Nice thing about this cafe is Both healthy and not so healthy food (Like Bbq Ribs) is available. Their baked squash is very good. They close after lunch by 3 or so. (Not sure...

Nice park with a baseball field, small playground, and the occasional festival or gathering. There’s a large, heavily built structure with bathrooms that covers a few picnic tables and a number of uncovered tables, plus some great views. Parking is usually taken up by folks going to KP Interstate. It’s not uncommon for folks to pitch tents/make shelters in the bathrooms and covered spaces, but it’s usually pretty clear in the late spring and summer.

Beautiful relaxing looking park that is across N Interstate Ave. from Kaiser. it has two baseball fields, a soccer field a house looking structure with seating & bathrooms(although it looked as though the women's restroom is out of order), more seating throughout the park, a playground and a basketball court. The yellow Max passes this place as well, so you can get here from Downtown !

This park has the most amazing view. I go there very often to just sit in my car, and have lunch. Although you will have to go to a parking that’s not public. The access is open and if someone approaches you, act aloof, and tell them you were just having lunch. They are usually just checking if some homeless people were camping in their cars there.
