Flutter — Local services in Portland

I was sold a knock-off tarot deck. I'm in town visiting. Popped into Flutter after having an amazing meal at Churn. I was drawn to these mini tarot decks they had displayed in a little bowl. The one I gravitated to was not in a plastic wrapper like the rest of them, and when I inquired about that upon checking out, both staff members assured me it was a complete deck. But when I got back to my friend's house, I opened it up and realized it was missing the guidebook. So, I googled the deck and found the maker on etsy. I messaged him, inquiring where I could get the guidebook. He told me that if the deck had a qr code on the back, it was, in fact, fake and not his original deck. I'm wondering how many other customers have been hoodwinked by this shop? And I wouldn't expect this kind of thing to happen at a local Portland establishment. Flutter is a quirky shop along Mississippi Ave, my hands-down favorite shopping district in NoPo. It's a bit like wandering into Beatrix Potter's attic, if she were married to Herman Melville. Stuffed to the gills with vintage and modern treasures, there's the curio here and there that might be more at home at Paxton Gate down the way. Vintage prosthetic limb, anyone?

I love the society finches that live in the shop. It inspires me to find a big old victorian cage and keep finches of my own.

The prices for their vintage clothing are a bit high, and, in fact, the whole shop is on the spendy side. So while I can't do day-to-day shopping there (maybe I should buy that winning lottery ticket I keep dreaming of, already!) I certainly drop in occasionally for unique gifts or something for my curio cabinet! Put...

I brought my daughter in briefly right before closing time when we were visiting Portland earlier this Spring, and the owner was SO kind and helpful! She let us browse without pressuring us to leave, and after we bought a refillable pen that my daughter really wanted, she went the extra mile to send us some refills across the country so that my daughter can easily continue using her favorite pen when the first cartridge runs out. Thank you for the thoughtfulness and being so awesome! We'll be back next time...
