Update: I would not recommend eating here anymore. We have gone more than once in the past couple of months and have had issues. This was an awesome spot before but has gone down hill. Our food isn’t coming out right and now they hired one of the worst servers we have had. I am a veteran in the industry and know the restaurant business inside and out.
My husband worked 13 hours last night. We got the kids off to school and drove 35 minutes in due to traffic from LO. Just to walk in and get the same poor server as last time. He is lucky we tipped at all. Eduardo is his name. I got that from the receipt. He mostly stands around talking to the staff. He didn’t see if we wanted drinks, just waited 5-10 minutes and then asked if we were ready. I had to repeat myself and it wasn’t crowded. He doesn’t do any table touches until the end to see if you want a box. Didn’t refill drinks until I got mad and asked him for it when he was hanging out talking to a busser while she was clearing a table. I watched him walk by my husband and see the empty glass and stick his head up and ignore us. This was like the last time. We aren’t the only ones that he does this to from our observation.
I have recommended this restaurant to multiple people, and especially in the LO area. I will not be doing so anymore. The hash browns were not fluffy but super crunchy with every bite..the eggs are overcooked. It is a shame as we loved the server Shane and the food. Now, it is not worth our drive to come here anymore.
Old review: We have not found a meal we didn’t love yet! Not really expecting to either. This place is amazing! Best sausage gravy I have eaten. Their corned beef hash is unique but delicious! Their portions really give you your money’s worth! It is now our favorite breakfast stop! Best country fried steak and the unique style of the monte Cristo has made it a favorite. The drinks are excellent, as well. Worth the weight...
Read moreI live by this restaurant and have been a few times, but I can’t seem to understand the appeal. I’ll state what I like about this place first: the food portions are large and the meals are cooked well. But by no means do I think this place is worth the inconvenience.
The wait is always long (over an hour on the weekends) and they don’t have a messaging system that lets you know when your table is ready. So, instead of having the ability to walk around the street you have to just stand on the busy sidewalk. If you don’t hear your name called for a moment because of loud noises such as street traffic or music from the bar next door, tough luck because they’ve already moved on to the next guest. Want to make reservations? Forget about it.
On several occasions in my experience there has been an issue with the kitchen (such as broken gas line - safety hazard?) or payment system. In these occasions they won’t accept customers, so your hour long wait has just been doubled. Every time I have been able to sit down, the staff aren’t very friendly and the food takes almost as long as the wait outside.
Truthfully, the ingredients they use aren’t spectacular either, contributing to the wonderment I have on why this restaurant is always so busy. There are so many alternative options for breakfast just on Mississippi Ave that I will recommend over Gravy. Until they figure out their inconvenience issues, I likely won’t...
Read moreThe gravy by Gravy, truly is that phenomenal. 2 biscuits, gravy, and 2 eggs, with coffee about 20 bucks. Unlimited pour on the coffee, biscuits are great fluffy Southern fatty (whether butter or crisco) goodness, and so much gravy you can dip anything else on the table in it. Is it high for B'n'G?
$20 bucks for at home B'n'G, it would sound absurd, but having it at Gravy with the ambience of uplifting R&B music, soul music, and some Motown classics while getting coffee refills and having the comfort breakfast food that somehow places you back to a time when all you had to do was get your boots and jacket on to play on a snow day? This is where $20 is a perfect fit. I don't care the price when every element is executed flawlessly, my two eggs over medium - jammy goodness - done to perfection, and they brought some hot sauce to the table, the hot sauce was what tasted like a blend of a great salsa, with a dash of vinegar-pepper based hot sauce we all know like Tabasco.
It was a simple sauce, yet complex in flavor and perfect for breakfast time enjoyment. Just like the entirety of the Gravy experience. The service was timely, but not pushy. It seemed they just wanted folks to have a great morning, a simple endeavor but as we all know, can be complex and requires some things to go perfectly. This restaurant started our day off better than a lot of mornings, and that is a great...
