Sevigny Studio PDX — Attraction in Portland

Oh my goodness, I went in here kind of by accident. I passed by while walking back to my car from Collage, across the street...

And found not only the most lovely collection of local art (including the exact gift I'd been searching for) but the most wonderful shop attendant who not only went out of her way (joyfully!) to help me measure the capacity of a mug using a random plastic cup she had lying around that she determined to be ten ounces by asking someone in a food cart behind the store, but then--again joyfully--offered to gift wrap it for me.

She said "do you have a couple minutes? Because I can make it look really beautiful!".

I didn't, but she was so happy that I said I would swing back by after my appointment and when I did she had done this absolutely lovely wrapping job on it out of found materials in their back room.

I noticed a sign saying this is a woman of color owned business, which made me even happier.

What a wonderful selection of accessible art. She has prints in different sizes and the originals for sale. The owner is friendly and authentic. The store is beautifully laid out with a great mix of art and home decor that works with the art.

When you step in this studio be prepared to want to buy everything on the wall. Before you do remember there are 3 additional walls!!! Of course you will want everything on those walls too.

Hot tip: Ask to see her son’s work. He’s done an interactive mixed media piece that is being used as a trash can behind the desk (of all things)! The piece’s beady eyes and cavernous mouth will leave you unsettled but...

I personally talked to the owner, Katie, and she was so kind and welcoming. The nice thing about the gallery/store is that it doesn't feel stuffy and stiff like most galleries.
