Update: The owner immediately contacted me with concerns about my review. I genuinely appreciate that and will definitely be giving this place another go at their original location. I will update this review again after giving it a second go.
Portland has some of the most average Indian food. This place joins that list for me. I did go to their new location which may be the issue as all the reviews for their first location are near 5 stars.
I ordered my food online from their website only to find out when I got there that they never received the order. A side note, their prices in person are cheaper than their online prices and they tack on a $2 service fee. The guy at the window said he would make me the food, "no problem," and would have it ready in 15 minutes. The foods ready in 15 but when I get to the window I am paying their online prices. My tab comes out to $46 for Butter Chicken, Garlic Naan, Veg Samosa, Gulab Jamun, and Mango Lassi. THEY EVEN TACKED ON THE $2 ONLINE SERVICE FEE. I didn't have the energy to fight this. My total should have been $41.50.
The butter chicken curry was seasoned well but a bit too salty for my palate. The chicken itself however was bland. I was looking for a tandoor cooked chicken but that was definitely not the case.
The garlic naan tasted like it was from the freezer isle at the Indian store. Deep Garlic Naan. It had the same exact flavor and shape. I stock these in my freezer.
The veg samosa was probably the best food item I had here. Not a single complaint. Well seasoned. The samosa was perfectly crisp and not greasy. Probably the best samosa I have had in Portland. The chutneys need loads of work. The mint/cilantro chutney was tolerable. The date/tamarind chutney was a watered down mess.
The gulab jamun was also tolerable. The jamun itself was cooked well but a hair dense for my liking. I would still rank this high for the stuff thats available in Portland.
Mango Lassi was good and actually was a lassi unlike places who claim to sell lassi but give you a shake.
Overall I feel this is probably the best that Portland has to offer so I gave it 3 stars. I am very disappointed that I paid such a high price tag on food sold out of a truck. Portland is wild for that nonsense. Back in Texas the prices would be cheaper at a...
Read moreThis food was so delicious. The guy that cooks this is making really authentic Indian food and it tastes really good. He was also pretty nice to me at the window and very welcoming. I first tried the Paneer Korma (Orangish-yellow dish) and liked it so much that I went back a few days later and got Palak Paneer (Green dish). The dishes were full of spices that made them very flavorful. The prices were fair too.
When I went, the guy asked me for a spiciness level between 1-5 so be aware of how spicy you’ll want to ask for. I am a spicy lover and enjoyed the spiciness options - I wanted something pretty spicy and got 3 the first time but probably should’ve asked for 4 or 5, so spiciness was on the conservative side in my opinion.
Each of the main dishes gets served with rice. I also got the garlic naan each time which was sooo good. Best naan I’ve had - filled with herb and went very well to eat with the Paneer Korma / Palak Paneer on top.
The Paneer Korma is curry-like in flavor - buttery and milky with paneer (an Indian cheese - texture: tofu-like; taste: mild mozzarella-like) and cashews. First time trying paneer, I really liked it - he didn’t skimp on adding a good amount of paneer and cashews. The Palak Paneer is very herb forward with paneer - don’t let the look deceive you, it was packed with flavor and very yummy. I liked both the Paneer Korma and Palak Paneer about the same - maybe the Paneer Korma slightly more.
Regardless, you probably can’t go wrong getting...
Read moreThis was my first solo trip and my second time in Portland, and once again the food trucks did not disappoint. I decided this would be the perfect place to try Indian food for the very first time—and it turned out to be the best decision ever!
I loved it so much I came back two days in a row. On my first visit, I ordered butter chicken, chicken biryani, garlic naan, and a mango lassi. Every single dish blew me away:
•Butter chicken – rich, layered with spice, and unlike anything I’ve ever tasted.
•Chicken biryani – aromatic, perfectly cooked rice, and full-bodied flavor that lingers.
•Garlic naan – soft, pillowy, and infused with garlic all the way through.
•Mango lassi – so creamy and refreshing I honestly wish I could keep a gallon of it in my fridge at home.
And then there was the sauce—served in a little cup on the side. I couldn’t stop thinking about it.
So on day two, I came back and told the kind gentleman at the counter that while I enjoyed the butter chicken, I preferred the savory sauce that came with the biryani. He suggested I try the curry chicken and even added some of that biryani flavor into it. Let me just say—omggggg. This instantly became my new favorite dish. It paired perfectly with the naan and even with my leftover biryani.
This spot is now officially on my list of Portland favorites. If you’re anywhere near the food trucks and craving bold, flavorful Indian food, do yourself a favor and...
