The theater itself is nice. Not a whole lot to write home about, but it’s pretty decent for a small town area movie theater. Love the ability to add your own extra butter to your heart’s content. Clog dem arteries up!
Only issue was the girl working at the time we walked in. It was a matinee, the area was pretty dead. We’d ordered tickets ahead of time and hadn’t done that from them before, so we walked in prepared to figure it out. However, she was very rude and used a pointed tone when she told us “If you order online tell me because if I ring it up, it’ll short my drawer.”
Working in retail for as long as I have, I know mistakes happen, which I’m sure the management is well aware of as well. If it caused a drawer shortage, I’m sure after entering the booking code it would create a paper trail that would equal the same amount as the “shortage”, thus allowing an explanation and it will bounce back in a day or so.
Wanting to ensure your till does not come up short is a legitimate concern, but you can educate your patrons without speaking down to them.
I don’t care about the size of the arcade. I don’t care that the theater isn’t hoity toity like Columbus. Have the movie I want and popcorn with extra butter and I’m good to go. Instant 5 stars. But home girl isn’t long for the customer...
Read moreI went to see Brave at Portsmouth 8 Cinema and the 3D was really blurry in every scene that had more than two character one screen. I told the staff and they did nothing. So I told the manager and she said that they make the 3D movies like that. Yeah Pixar makes blurry movies, right. She also said they have had previous complaints but that hundreds don't complain, good logic. She also said that they have had their projector guy try and fix it. So she essentially admitted there was a problem. When I asked for my money back because I would like to leave, she said they can't do that. So I go back in and try and suffer through the film, but now I couldn't concentrate on the movie because of our argument. So when I got up to leave with my girlfriend she offered us a free pass to see any 2D movie two weeks after opening. So thats a difference of six dollars. So in summary, when I went to see Brave at Portsmouth 8 Cinema all I got was a blurry picture, an argument with the manager, and ripped off six dollars. I will use the pass, but I will also never go here again. I would advise anyone wanting to see a 3D movie to drive to Ashland Cinemark Movies 10. Yeah its a little distance, but its $7.50 for a 3D ticket compared to $11.00 and they have RealD 3D which is a much higher...
Read moreMy daughter attends Shawnee State and we wanted to see a movie while I was visiting, so we decided to give this theater a shot. Quite frankly, we were expecting a nasty dump after reading the reviews. Happily, our experience was quite the opposite. The young lady we purchased our tickets from was pleasant and efficient. The $6 price tag for our matinee show is a fair price. We each purchased their special snack deal...a soda and popcorn for $4 per person. Even though there is a new policy that free refills are only available with the purchase of a large popcorn, I feel that the snack prices were also fair. The popcorn was fresh and there was a good selection of soda flavors. I certainly did not feel as if I got ripped off...many other theaters charge far more for snacks. The seating is not the most modern reclining chairs, but was clean and comfortable. Even though the theater was not in total darkness for the show, we did not feel it was so light that it was distracting. We also found the surround sound to be as loud as other theaters. Overall, I would say that this theater is a really nice for the size of this small town...nothing fancy, but clean and a good value. We will...
