The local Bob Evan's has often been touted as a casual Sunday-style restaurant. In a previous incarnation Bob Evan's featured pictures from the local community of Portsmouth, Ohio, but after a recent remodeling that created a more open, naturally lit dining area, such local nuances have been removed. While the natural lighting is nice, the restaurant now feels more corporate and less home-like. The breakfast menu is overwhelming, but are still very much along the lines of traditional breakfast foods such as biscuits, sausage, steak, and eggs. Great if you are looking a heavy breakfast, not so great if you are a traveler looking for a light breakfast from a company with a reputable name. While the breakfasts are traditional, the serving sizes are not; they are enormous and best split between several people. While splitting the servings, you may also want to split the bill. The golden goose must have laid those eggs... The establishment is typically clean, although the air does seem leave a greasy sheen on you so you smell like Bob Evan's when you leave. The bathrooms are clean. The servers seem to be in a hurry to get you seated, and take your order (they came to the table 4 times in 5 minutes), but after the order was placed they didn't come back until the order was filled...some 27 minutes later. No refills on coffee or water. Keep in mind, there were only two people at our table, and only a total of 5 people in the restaurant. Not peak hours... Our overall impression of this Bob Evan's location is that it's primary target demographic is older (65+) people who eat out less than once a week, and particularly budget to eat at Bob Evan's based upon the fact they offer Traditional American foods. The quality, quantity, and cost of foods is corporate regulated and do not adequately reflect the median cost of dining in the area at comparable establishments. It is assessed that the quality of service lacks due to staffing levels. During off-peak hours less staff are assigned to minimize overhead and those that are assigned are given additional taskings to compensate for lack of staffing. As a result, quality of...
Read moreI normally try to go to the New Boston Bob Evans because this Bob Evans regularly fails to completely fulfill online/ call-in carry out orders. Almost everytime I order, something is missing! I usually don’t call the restaurant to report the missing items or complain (because what good does it do,) but this last time I did because I ordered the “2 dinners for $22” and both of the dinners’ sides were missing! The lady was nice and gave the impression that she knew the items were missing. She told me she put my name down for a free meal next time because it was too inconvenient for me to leave Minford to drive to Portsmouth to pick up the sides. Long story short, I called last night to try to redeem the free meal and was told by the Manager, Adam, that he “didn’t know who would’ve told me that because they don’t do that” and a person could only come back to the restaurant and get the missing items the same day. I tried to explain that I told the lady(that claimed to be the manager) that I wouldn’t be going back to Portsmouth that evening and so she gave me a free meal to redeem for my inconvenience. Notwithstanding I didn’t get what I paid for! And I told him that she told me she noted everything “in the computer” After feeling like I was being accused of lying about it, I asked,ADAM, a couple times, for him to please just check for my name because the lady manager that I spoke to assured me that she noted my name, the meal, and issue in the computer. He said, “no, we don’t do that.” I recommend checking your order before leaving because you will probably not be getting what you paid for. And if you do call and they offer you something for your inconvenience you won’t get it. Plus you will be treated like a liar trying to get a free meal. Portsmouth Bob Evans = usually not getting what you paid for and feeling stupid for trying to rectify it. Also, the carry out register is located by the restrooms and It ALWAYS SMELLS LIKE FRESH POOP. So I recommend holding your breath while picking up order or opting for the...
Read moreArrived ahead of our party of seven. Was seated promptly but the two of us sat there for 20 minutes waiting for our party to arrive without being acknowledged. When the rest of our party finally got there, it still took our waitress Bree a couple minutes to get to our table. She did apologize but seemed she was also apologizing to just about every table that she was serving. We ordered our drinks and our food at the same time. Out drinks came pretty quickly but seemed to take forever for our food to arrive. One person ordered the cinnamon sticks (not sure of the exact name of them) and wanted to have them before the rest of the food came out. They never came nor did our waitress come back to say anything about them. I ordered a BLT with fries and neither were even warm when I received them. The 15 fries I got tasted horrible and most of those were cold. I couldn't even finish them. The sandwich was below mediocre as the bread was really hard and the sandwich was pretty dry. It seemed like it was made furst and sat under the heating lamp while the rest of the food, which was about half an hour to our table, was being prepared. A person in our party didn't receiver her toast initially with her meal, and wasn't served by the time she was about finished with her meal. To top it all off my water had a fruity taste to it. This was one of the worst experiences that I have ever had at any restaurant. Seemed to me the portions were really small and not worth the over inflated price that they charge. This is the first time I have patronized a Bob Evans since they changed management a few years ago since we moved away from Ohio. When we visit home again Bob Evans will not be a place that...
