My friend and I were in the area and love looking at historic homes so we stopped by. We did not call ahead to arrange a tour so we weren’t sure if we’d be able to get one, but we rang the bell and were given a wonderful tour by a very friendly and knowledgeable tour guide. She answered all my weird questions and is clearly very passionate about local history. The house itself is beautiful, and has an interesting history. It is also one of the most wonderfully staged historic homes I’ve been in, with mannequins set up in historic costume beyond the period-accurate furniture (including some pieces original to the home or to the Potts family) and props. And you are able to see the entire house, from the formal parlors to the servant’s quarters in the attic (note the stairs are not super accessible if you have mobility issues, but even if you are unable to climb up them this place is still worth a stop!). Based on other users’ photos it looks like they change up the staging on occasion… they have things staged for a funeral/death in the family right now, in keeping with the Halloween season. The gift shop is quite nice as well, with toys and games that were played in the time the manor was built, as well as some items made by local artisans, beyond the usual souvenirs. The cost is free, with a mere $2 suggested donation. I have been on very expensive house tours that were not as in-depth or as pleasant as this one! Highly recommended if you’re in the area or are interested in early...
Read moreHad a great experience with the guided tour today at Pottsgrove Manor. My girlfriend, who had spent half her life in the area had never been there and suggested it.
Because of the weather we didn’t walk the grounds but did take the tour of the manor. She and I were the only ones in that time slot. You have to boot a slot on Eventbrite (for free) in order to tour. Tours are every hour but last about 45 minutes.
Our guide, Anna (Ann was also there in the gift shop) was fantastic. She was animated and knew so many crazy details and even explained how they have the facts or how they are able to make the assumption based on facts.
The tour winds through three floors of the home with rooms, pictures and possessions owned by or representing the family and their settlement in the area.
I originally had no desire to go, but once Anna kicked off, she grabbed my attention and helped me remember and tie my US History to this amazing family.
We did not take any photos, we were just engrossed in the history and because it was just us, Anna was great at conversations and answer questions as we went.
We will go back again for another tour and also spend a little time walking the 4 acres...
Read moreIf you like colonial Pennsylvania German history and architecture, you will love this place. Beautiful house, buildings and grounds. We took a tour of the 3 story house which has lots of early interior and exterior architectural features. Interior furnishings are beautiful and most are original to the house or family. Our tour guide was Sandra Faller who is a super excellent “ 5 Star” guide who is very knowledgeable in all aspects of the house history and furnishings. She explains things thoroughly and can answer all questions related. Outside there is a bake oven, the workers house and a small german garden. Do yourself a favor and visit this beautiful historical site for a few hours. The gift shop offers Plenty of related books, redware plates, leather goods and other souvenirs. Please purchase gift shop items or leave a donation to help support this beautiful historic site. Plenty of on...
