Not as good as it used to be....
This used to be our favorite Mexican restaurant in Pottstown. My husband and I moved to the area 4 years ago. Since then we have been faithful goers of this restaurant. So much so that we ate here at least twice a month. I gave this restaurant one star because of our most recent experience. We have always had good service here and good food. Never unhappy until this past time. I ordered the Carnitas. This was the WORST meat I have ever had. In fact there was barely meat on my plate but instead fat chunks. Carnitas is supposed to be fried. Not soggy. The chef should have known better and payed attention to what he was plating. My husband felt really bad. I didn’t want his food to get cold. So I ate the beans and some rice. For whatever reason the waiter this evening barely checked on us. He finally asked if we wanted a box (seeing that I didn’t touch the meat) and I said no. My husband and I debated telling the server. We didn’t want to make a scene and we didn’t want other customers to hear how unhappy we were. After all we did like this restaurant. So we decided to tell the woman at the front desk privately. I believe she is either an owner or the manager because she’s there all the time. When she asked how everything was we honestly and politely told her it was the worst carnitas meat we have ever had and if it was our first night at the restaurant, we wouldn’t have returned. We explained that we have been there MANY times with no problems. She knew us. She recognized that we were regulars. We explained that we wanted her to know that it wasn’t great and we were disappointed. She did not handle that well at all. She got rude with my husband and I and said “why didn’t you say something to the server?” “Why didn’t you ask for another plate?” She made me feel like I was wrong. That is NOT good customer service. She proceeded to call up not only the chef but the server and yell at them in Spanish in front of my husband and I. My husband and I looked at each other like are you kidding me?! They understand English. How rude to yell at your employees in front of customers and in a language that we don’t understand. I didn’t want the meal comped. I don’t care about the money. All I wanted was an apology for a poor meal. Take responsibility. The restaurant industry is very competitive and you should be so careful how you treat customers especially people who have been coming to your restaurant for years. You lost two regular customers. Good luck. Your customer service and management skills needs major work. If you go here, beware that unless you smile and tell them their food is good even if it isn’t, they aren’t nice people.
Oh and this never bothered us before but since I’m reviewing I mine as well mention this. They ALWAYS have their children running around the restaurant. So much so that they are playing in the front on the floor and take over the first two booths with bottles, baby things, toys, food, etc. if you don’t mind kids it’s not a big deal but I wonder about...
Read moreI have been coming here for years and even had three birthday dinners for myself here. What kept me coming back was the style of food and consistently getting good value.
Unfortunately over the years prices have continued to go up and up (not specific to this restaurant) but the quality here has become sooo poor.
I ate here twice in the last two months trying to give it another chance but with dismal results. The quality is horrible and just blatantly unconcerning to anyone who works here. It's like they gave up
I would not recommend Los Azteca's to anyone at this point. However there are two great Mexican restaurants locally I would recommend. If you are near here and want something close try Three Brothers Address : 1432 E High St, Pottstown, PA 19464. I would recommend the Super Taco.
Also for my favorite local Mexican restaurant try Tortugas in Collegeville 305 2nd Ave, Collegeville, PA 19426. You cant miss with this one trust me beyond worth it if you love Mexican...
Read moreMy family and I have frequented Los Aztecas for years, however my most recent experience will definitely change that. I stopped in for lunch on a Sunday and ordered the chicken with mole sauce. Mole is a rich, flavorful sauce which gets its complexity from a list of ingredients like chocolate and peppers. Unfortunately, Los Aztecas variation lacked truly bold flavor, but would’ve been okay if the dish was better prepared.
My meal took less than 10 minutes to prepare and the plate was scalding hot...this was the first indication. As I started eating I noticed the beans and sauce were caked onto the sides of the dish. The shredded chicken wasn’t seasoned, at all, and was missing grill marks, charred color, or anything that made me confident it wasn’t nuked or boiled.
Honestly, I’ve had great meals here, love the complimentary chips and salsa, and was attracted to the extensive menu. However, I’d hesitate to return for another meal based on what just landed...
