I am from out of town, but I really liked this park. The first thing I noticed was that there were a lot of larger shade trees in the parking lot. It was nice to not come back to a baking hot car at the end of the day!
There is a well-maintained, grassy area between the parking area and river, with a couple of benches right along the river’s edge, and then another half dozen under a covered gazebo. There are several picnic tables under a separate gazebo, although a homeless man – – and many of his possessions – – occupied quite a bit of this space. Nevertheless, I found the park to be fairly clean, except for some minor debris such as cigarette butts and bottle caps.
For me, this park is not so much a destination, in itself, as it is a central hub to access the Schuylkill river and Trail. Nevertheless, I found it to be a pretty pleasant place to use as a base of operations for my day in the area. I felt comfortable just hanging out here before and after my activities. There is also a kayak rental concessionaire at the east end of the parking lot. People in the area generally seem friendly, and also very outdoors–minded.
Immediately surrounding the park is a pretty gritty industrial section of town—but at least the park serves as an oasis from that. I would definitely come back here again as a hub for my outdoor activity. If I could, I would give...
Read moreI was not to happy that we Had to walk up and down gravel and grass hills, but whatever,it's a park rite? Until we are walking along and there are ,bums sleeping on the grass, and concrete, there is trash all along where you can walk, and on and on,there is nothing at all to do except stare at the water or the cars passing by on the street, they need something for kids to play on,more seats and some kind of doc to walk out onto. Why advertise a beautiful family friendly park when really it's a rest stop for the needy. I guess you have to pretend to put tax payer money somewhere, cuz I know taxes fund this "park"but it's clear that those funds are going in someone's pocket and not into the betterment of this park for their community.🤷Pottstown really needs to step it up,we were here once and it lasted about 15...
Read moreI recently picked up fishing. (catch and release only). The scenery is very appealing to the eyes, and with so many trails both paved and unpaved I believe that whomever is on the trail(s) would be content for hours absorbing the wildlife, and the views of the river with people kayaking with fishing poles made me want to get out there with them. All in all I enjoyed seeing different species of birds and hearing their songs while fishing from the shore of the river. I recommend whoever reads this to go check out the trails and enjoy the serenity of the Riverfront Park. Happy trails...
