We were super excited they had finally gotten a store front. We heard for months how good there food was and how the truck would always be sold out. So never really gotten chance to try them before. It's been a crazy week me and partner just wanted a good cheese steak and some fries to just chill and relax. The out side of the building looks very nice. We circled the block twice and finally got a spot out side the place and we walked in. There entrance and exit door. You walk in entrance and your experience starts the entrance is very narrow kind like a cattle path and they have two ordering kiosks right in the way in the small spaces they have and it bottle necks the flow of the line. We ordered two sandwiches just regular cheese steak with onions, Balboa sandwich and cutlet fries. All looked very appetizing online. And two drinks. Comes out to be 50.00 something. Which is bit high for two people. But its ribeye and cooper sharp cheese and chicken cutlets. So you expect it to be bit high. We moved down the cattle path to the open area and dinning room.
Some person got us our drinks. When we got there it was semi busy but nothing super crazy. And where we were standing to wait we got to look into the kitchen and how they were cooking and stuff. And that's when we were like yeah sadly this isn't going be a good experience. Very unorganized which is okay moving from truck to store front is lot different. They had fry baskets filled to brim with fries to try and get through orders. And just seemed very hectic in kitchen. Which they are new that's going happen.
They do have online orders and it just sits out on the counter and no one knows it's there. So if you come in looking for an online order it's by register with receipt attached with your name on it. A sign may help with that next time. And clogs up that cattle path area sadly. And we waited didn't seem like there was no clear way people was getting there orders. People before us and people who came after got there food and we just waited. It seemed like if you just got sandwiches you got your food faster. If you got sides you were waiting for a while. The atmosphere of the place had nice philly rocky sports theme to it. Which is cool being a rocky fan and Pennsylvania boy through and through. Kind of party vibe to it which was fun. They are trying to give experience with what they have. Also have to compliment them on there branding they definitely now how to get there brand out there and push who they are which is awesome. We had almost 30 minute wait. We got our food and head home which was less than ten minutes away we get in the house and cracked open fries first in nice box properly taped up and there logo slapped on top the box. We opened the box to these very thin crushed fries that were hard and some sauce drizzled on and chicken cutlets cut up and just thrown on top. The little cheese sauce and plump fries we had wasn't bad but there was just lot of crunchy bits like we got the bottom of the basket just chucked in. So it's good if you get enough sauce and plump fries and not crusty ones. Let's move on to main event the cheese steak for the cooper wiz onions on roll. Was pumped for it. Bit into it and you just the roll was so soft it was hard to bite off. And the steak was soso but there was just this weird after taste you get from something. I am not sure what it was. Only ate half of it cause I was hungry the other half I was done. My partner tried Balboa. He said it just really reminded him of buffalo wing sauce and kind left weird after taste to him too. He ate half his too and didn't finish rest of his. And he is a huge fan of fries especially cheese but sadly he didn't even finish those. All together for us it was over hyped experience that left bad taste in our mouth and little less money in our pockets. I am all about supporting small businesses. And I hope they work and get more organized. They are growing and I wish them best. Try them out for yourself. And hopefully...
Read moreSad to say we didnt have the best experience. I really wanted it to go well because of all the hype surrounding it but unfortunately me and my dad didnt have a good experience.
We were in opening day, ordered face to face with the woman at the counter, 2 cheesesteaks, fries and two bottled sodas. My dad stood right in front of the counter the entire time while I sat at a table in earshot.
We went in to this fully expecting it to take a little while due to the volume of customers. We waited 15, 20, 30 minutes. Still patient. After 45 minutes we noticed a complete new crowd in, everyone who ordered around us had came and left and people who came way after us were getting their food.
Now I 100% understand mistakes happen and it is not the fact that they forgot to make our food or lost our ticket. It was the way it was handled. My dad was standing by the counter the entire time watching everyone get their names called and handed their food. The women who took our order never stopped for a moment to see him waiting for nearly an hour and think to check where his food was. When he eventually checked in with her, she sadly made up a lie saying that "someone else must have taken our food"... instead of just admitting there was a mistake, which would have been much more honorable and again- we would totally understand! It was opening day and they were packed!
And again, my dad stood there watching everyone get personally handed their food, heard names called and neither him nor I heard his name called, so no, someone else did not take our order... they simply made a mistake. It was really upsetting that the women tried to lie it off instead of being honest.
We were barely even given an apology. She told us theyd "remake" it now and offered a bottle of soda, which we had already purchased and when she realized that she just turned away and ignored us, didnt issue an apology or do anything else to make it right. NO ONE was sorry! Service to me is not about how many mistakes you make but how you handle the mistakes and this was handled terribly. To wait for nearly an hour and then be lied too and offer no apology...
Oh and when we got home to eat it my cheesesteak had "cooper cheese" written on it and that was not the kind of cheese I ordered which threw the taste off and I wasnt even able to enjoy the food.
I know this place is a huge hit and I think that may be part of the reason they did not seem to care about making things right with 1 customer because they had so many other happy ones... sad because we were really excited for this place. A proper apology wouldve made all...
Read moreWell, well, well! I’ve finally eaten a cheesesteak from Gazzos Steaks. Was it as great as people say? Is it one of the best? I am from the area. In fact I was born there, but have resided in Berks County for more than 30 years. I moved away from home when I was 14 back in 1984 and moved to Philadelphia. As a high schooler, I managed a pizza shop named Holiday Pizza on Stenton Ave which was a few blocks from my school M. L. King High! I am not the average person who claims to know a good cheesesteak. I know a good cheesesteak when I eat one. First and foremost the roll has to be great. If the roll sucks, your cheesesteak will SUCK as well. Today’s person prefers a seeded roll over the traditional non seeded roll. To me, seeded vs non seeded is not that important. The roll just has to be a good roll. Now let’s briefly speak about sauce. I’ve lived and worked in Philly, Montgomery, Lehigh & Berk’s County and sauce on a cheesesteak is something that those in Berk’s county choose. The only time sauce was put on a cheesesteak was when someone ordered a PIZZA STEAK! To me, sauce ruins a cheesesteak, but to each his/her own. Now let’s talk Gazzos. I ordered the Sanatoga with smoked, cooper and onions. As you see in the pictures below, this is what I received. After taking my first bite, my mouth began to water because it was my first time having smoked copper cheese or copper cheese on my cheesesteak. My go to is American cheese. There was plenty of meat, but the ratio between meat and cheese was way off. There was too much cheese on the steak. The smokiness in the cheese began to over power the actual taste of the beef. It was seasoned well, but those seasonings couldn’t break all the way through the smokiness of the cheese. This had me thinking that something else should have been added to this sandwich to balance those flavors out. Ketchup would not have been a good choice and sauce would have been criminal. A sweet mayo may work, but as far as I know, they don’t have any. So the only possible thing to do is to put less cheese on the cheesesteak. Overall, I’d give this an 8 out of 10. Is this cheesesteak better than one from Zoagies in Philadelphia? HELL NAW! Is this cheesesteak better than Tony’s in West Reading? NO! It is not, but it is a good cheesesteak and I’ll continue to patronize this business. My name BigDaveIsFat, says it all “Get...
