Whatever money is saved versus buying from Home Depot or Menards is not worth the aggravation. Remodeled kitchen. Bought Americana Capital Cabinets manufactured by Wellborn Forest. Middle of the road cabinets. We couldn't afford high end cabinets, yet we did not want the cheap ones. Originally wanted just a Honey Finish. Somehow salesman talked us into getting a Honey Finish with Chocolate Glaze for doors and drawer fronts. Had the chocolate glaze finish been consistent and looked good we would have stayed with it. Cabinets came looking like a 3 yo slapped the chocolate glaze on. Crappy looking with a crappy finish. No consistency in how it was applied. In some places very heavily applied, in others barely visible. Voiced our displeasure by calling and sending emails to company and cabinet maker. Salesman and cabinet rep came out and took a look at the doors. Unfortunately I had to rely on my 25 yo son to show what we received because I could not get away from work. Because I was not there, I don't think they took my concerns and complaints all that seriously. I tried to get the manufacturer to replace the doors and drawer fronts. After 2 weeks of repeated calls and emails, I finally got a reply on what the manufacturer would do. It would cost us $800 to replace the crappy glaze-finished doors/drawers for the same with just a honey finish. Supposedly the manufacturer was giving us a deal. By this time I was so ticked off I paid the $800 extra for what I should have gotten originally . . . quality cabinets. Two (2) weeks later, new doors and drawers. To add insult to injury, the manufacturer forget to send one door and one drawer front which meant another 2 week wait. One more insult . . . the door is not the exact size as what was specified. It's about 3/4" narrower than it should be. I'm going to leave it as is. I GIVE UP!!! I'm tired of dealing with Builders Surplus and I'm certainly tired of Wellborn Forest. In hindsight, instead of paying an additional $800, I probably should have taken Builders Surplus and Wellborn Forest to small claims court to at least get what we ordered . . . quality cabinets with a professional finish. Instead we got cabinets with decent build quality but with a TERRIBLE finish. Disappointed that Builders Surplus didn't seem to work very hard to fix the situation. Cost us an extra $800 out of our kitchen budget.
Here are the takeaways from our experience: Stay away from Wellborn Forest cabinets, especially anything with a chocolate glaze finish. Don't believe any salesman when they tell you it will look good. I'm really disappointed with Builders Surplus. I feel they did not fight hard enough for me as...
Read moreI would have given Edge Kitchen and Bath a good review but after the installation of our bathroom countertop, that good review is now the opposite.
My husband and I ordered a customized countertop due to our toilet being next to our vanity and us wanting a double sink vanity. Iâm not sure if they used an outside/third party company for all their countertops or just ours since it was customized. Well, for future customers, if they tell you that they need to use an outside company, be alarmed. The third party company came out and measured what we needed to measure once our vanity was installed. They knew where our vanity drawers were and knew where the sink bowls should be so future plumbling should not have been an issue. We received the countertop and it was not the correct measurement and our pipes were up against our vanity drawers. We called Edge on this issue and we were told ways on how to âfixâ it from a plumbing standpoint but then were also told from the same customer service individual that they were not plumbers so they couldnât help us. Yes, bizarre! Different people from Edge kept on telling us which pipes to get from the store and it took about 5 different trips and 5 different pipes to still come to a dead end. A plumber came to our house and told us the correct pipe to use (not from the original list that Edge gave us) but the plumber still had to cut the pipe down in order for it not to hit the vanity drawer.
Edge was very unprofessional in the way they handled this situation. They told us that itâs not their fault and that my husband told the third party company where we wanted the sink bowls to be set, which is a lie because they were not there when the third party company came out to take their own measurements. Edge was playing the âhe said/she saidâ game and would not help us in anyway.
The only thing I can think of is that since this was from a third company and not their warehouse, they would be losing money if they had to replace our countertop; which they should have in the first place since the measurements were wrong. Having a license plumber cut down our pipes to make this work shouldnât of even happen.
With going back and forth with Edge and finally getting our plumbing to work, it took an extra month of not having a properly functioned bathroom. If this situation never happened, I would have used Edge for future remodeling of our kitchen and one other bathroom we have in our house. Because of this instance, Edge will never get my...
Read moreThey get an extra star because the folks we worked with on the door were great. However, our experience with cabinets was a nightmare.
We worked with Chris Ringenberg, who left the org, and Layne Phillips afterwards. We met with Chris about the kitchen design. We had measurements but Chris seemed confused by them. He recommended their installer come out, take measurements and he would make accurate drawings, and price the cabinets and installation. We told him we had a contractor who could do the installation but agreed to get the quote and make a final decision from there. We paid $250. The installer came out and Chris created a layout and drawings based on their installer's measurements. We met and finalized the layout.
We ordered $25,000 in cabinets. They arrived ahead of schedule but largely unassembled and in 60 separate boxes - Problem #1.
Problem #2 - We discovered that the depth of some of the cabinets was wrong, but that was on us and our contractor. We went back to reorder the cabinets that we made the mistake on; Chris worked up the estimate. $5000+.
Problem #3 - Before re-ordering, we looked again and noticed the width of one cabinet was inconsistent on some of the drawings: 21" on some, 18" on another. Re-measured our space. They'd given us a wrong base cabinet. They also shorted us a piece of crown molding. So we go back to Builder's Supply. Chris was gone. We end up talking to Layne and explain that we wanted to order new cabinets but be refunded for the ONE cabinet they got wrong, and we wanted the missing molding. She acknowledges that Chris was problematic and agrees to review our design.
She then sends an email and says the owner said we should have gotten a contractor to confirm the measurements that THEIR installer, whom we paid $250 for per their recommendation, provided before we made an order. She cited company policy. We tried to reason with her and she said that they have people often try to take advantage of them. After we spent over $25k. Seriously? It was rude and condescending.
We asked again about the missing crown molding and she finally agreed to send it, "in good faith". It showed up without any wrapping or box. Just a single piece left on the porch... Needless to say we went with another supplier for the...
