I recently played the River course while staying at the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Golf & Beach resort. This review is for this particular golf course only.
Pros: The golf course has great views. You can often see the rainforest in the background and almost every hole is lined with palm trees. There is lots of water but each hole feels unique. The fairways are in great shape. The sand traps are decent, but could use more to have more fluff. The tee boxes are decent, but some of them were a bit more beat up than others. The rental clubs are a nice set of Ping G425s and they also supply you with two sleeves. They do have a driving range with free range balls available. Also, they have a putting green/chipping area. Lastly, the cart girl came around a lot and had all the beverages you would expect.
Cons: The greens are quite bad. They are super slow and a lot of them have issues where there is no grass, just sand. However, the biggest issue is that the price for this type of course is much higher than you would expect given the quality. All in I paid $262 ($70 of that is rental clubs). That price puts it in line with some of the nicer public courses you can play in the 50 states, which this course simply is not.
Overall, I still enjoyed my time golfing on this course despite the high price tag. If you are OK with paying a premium to golf in the winter months while you are vacation, then I would suggest...
Read moreThe place it's self is beautiful it has great views and very friendly staff the rooms are very comfy the vacation club rooms are freaking amazing.my only fault is you need a car rental because the resort doesn't offer much excursions if u like to do activities besides golf and tennis..they plenty of pool activities and also the parking is type expensive per day 20 to 25 . So that might be a fault to having a rental the Uber are good just not allowed at the entrance and the food at this place isn't really great it's not authentic Spanish good they make it more for tourist and I feel like I didn't leave new York to p.r to eat American food that part sucks. But the luqillo beach is to die, which is off the resort and right by the beach they have resturant that extremely cheap. The food at the resort like i said is not the greatest..it was so bad that i ordered french fries.....they have pizza and it was frozen dough.. along with the frozen burgers at Margaritaville aka 5 o clock somewhere.......drinks are watered down. Even the shorts are water down. I am someone that don't drink and lady gave a drink 4 different rums and did nothing to me....mine you I don't...
Read moreThe rooms are clean, modern and super cozy. The resort has an extensive list of restaurants with all type of environments. The pools are great, they have them separated from adults, and all people but you can be in whatever you prefer, the beach is clean, quiet and nice. Everything is beautiful and with the comfort of a resort. We stayed during our 1 year wedding anniversary and we happened to mention it during the check in, without asking, we were sent wine and strawberry with chocolate on the second day directly to our room. The only down factor is that tours from the hotel are really expensive and it's better if you book directly with other companies or do your own, also they don't allow uber to pick up people in the resort so you have to go to the country club to wait, this location is far and the shuttle bus doesn't run 24hr, they can pick you up but if they see them the valet guys and taxis will give the uber a hard time.
Overall great place...
