I cannot believe that I went to the Farmers Market, yesterday, (1/4/2025), the holidays are over the trees are GONE, and at 9AM, hardly anyone was there. I don't want to hear "how cold it was", my Ginger guy had a jacket on that was like an electric blanket, my peanut lady had two heaters going under her tent. One of the meat guys was out there, I almost wanted to buy something from him just because he was "THERE"! Why doesn't the Farmers Market just close in that open area, NEVER let the pumpkins or the Christmas trees back in there, have them us a portion of the parking lot. I had a list of things I was going to buy, some people lost money today, because "it was too cold". Well, that may be your excuse, but there were other people there willing to stand there all day and sell their stuff. And unless you state that you don't open until 10 AM, you are supposed to be there at 9 AM, if you were a business anywhere else, that would be unacceptable.. We came to North Caroline in 1980 because my husband was in the military, and we were stationed at Fort Bragg. When the kids were little, we went all the way up to Raleigh to the farmer's market to purchase our Christmas trees. I remember them being out in the grass area. Now, the "holiday" stuff seems to have taken over the covered open concrete area, so the "FARMERS" have been pushed out to the parking lot. And I mean those farmers that are there weekend after weekend. You know what, there's a building over by the restaurant that is empty, maybe the pumpkins and the Christmas trees could go over there. Have a full-on holiday type area, plenty of parking over there, and it's gated, and there are indoor and outdoor areas. And let the Farmers Market stay the...
Read moreThe Raleigh Farmer’s Market is the perfect place for people like me who enjoy shopping “different.” I get overwhelmed and bored with malls, big brands, crowded parking lots, noise, etc. I’ve lived in coastal NC my entire life (36), but never visited the Farmer’s Market until 3-4 years ago. It’s a 1.5 hour drive from my house, so when most people visit Raleigh, they/we go to places like the Crabtree Mall or other larger shopping centers. I’ve always done the same because I always assumed it was basically another flea market, and there is no shortage of those in east NC. Sidenote: I work for myself doing landscaping, I collect rare Japanese Maples, Conifers, and other shrubs. Therefore ANY time me and the wife go “outta town”, I always find time to go to a local nursery, public arboretum, garden, etc. The RFM has something for everybody. Outdoor, yet sheltered and well organized shopping The FRESHEST locally grown fruit, veggies, cut flowers -dahlia bouquets -a non-corporate “CrackerBarrel style” restaurant open for breakfast and lunch -daily wholesale and retail nursery vendors that carry the more unique, uncommon, somehow very inexpensive species of plants, trees, and shrubs that you wont find at the average nursery -seasonal decor -tropical houseplants -homemade cookies and ice cream -along with your generally expected flea market shops. However, if you’re looking for a more traditional flea market experience (heavily used nonsense items), then the actual “Raleigh Flea Market” is likely your...
