Grande Prairie Public Library — Attraction in Rich Township

Nice staff however least resourceful library I've ever experienced. I have young kids in Elementary school who are preparing for the MAP test. I questioned the reference desk if they had any books, there were absolutely none. I had to travel to dupage county & go to one of the local libraries there where they offered me 11 books on COMMON CORE, the PARCC TEST & other helpful items geared towards the MAP test. I asked for items on teaching kids a foreign language at the hazel crest library, they had no items, thus I traveled to the same library in dupage county & they provided me a plethora of books, videos, flashcards, etc on all types of foreign languages. Dupage county library also has "Playway Views" which are handheld portable TV's that are used as learning tools to teach kids about animals, math, reading, social studies, foreign languages & the list goes on. They have a cell phone charging station incase your phone dies, they offer guests free computer passes ALL DAY & then give them $1.50 towards anything they need to print. They have separated the kids section and made math flash cards, site word cards & everything you need pertaining to all subjects in one location. They truly go the extra step, & I'm just saddened that our local libraries don't offer these same resources for our children. There is NO LIMITATIONS on the amount of books or movies you want to check out, they give you a ten day grace period on returning items before late fees accrue or either they wait till your balance reaches $5.00 before they don't suspend your internet privileges. At hazel crest library I was late on returning 1 book, tried to get on the internet & they suspended my card. Didn't offer me the opportunity to renew the item they wanted their 50 cents first, which is horrible customer service. I would love to see this library step their game up. All the MAP books I checked out from the alternate library I brought ALL OF THEM to hazel crest & asked that they be ordered. The kids reference desk supplier took down all the names & titles & stated she would pass the information on to the ordering person. This library is small and needs to be updated One of the staff members was not very friendly when I asked for assistance. She seemed annoyed that I asked for assistance. This was my 1st visit here. I said I would not return. I will give them another try. Also, a patron came back in to confront the security guard because he felt he was disrespected and his space was violated.
